At least one good use for theHack's writing

Literature/English is not one of my sister's strong suites. They're reading Beowulf now in 12th grade English and I helped her with her one assignment tonight. The supplementary material included this list of grammatical errors, which included:
[*]catenative verbs
[*]dangling participles
[*]lack of or faulty parallelism
[*]modal auxiliary verbs
[*]pretentious language
[*]split infinitives
[*]stacked noun phrases
[*]unnecessary intensifiers
[*]untriggered reflexive pronouns
I sat there for a moment trying to figure out how to explain the definitions to her, then walked up to my room, pulled out The Butlerian Jihad, and proceeded to go through it with her, picking out examples. We had more than enough material and I think she understood how not to write.
So, at least I got another use out of these books. Feel a little better about spending the money...just slightly.
