I'm all for throwing the book at them, but not for billing them the emergency response costs. Better idea would be to force the family to give over a healthy percentage of any future profits the incident might produce.

And exactly WHAT are the charges?

Resurrecting this ancient thread due to new developments. After this, I'm done with it!

Apparently the dad of the kid got charged with 'attempting to influence a public servant' and the mom got charged with filing a false police report. They got sentenced to 90 and 20 days in jail, respectively.

The total money that was lost due to the hoax is listed as $47,000 (US), which could have been much higher. But anyway...

I'm done.

Got off pretty light, all things considered, IMO.

Christ, if that fiasco had happened over the State would most likely have gifted them a balloon and tagged the kid. The judicial system over here is a joke.
