Our dogs

Post by lotek »

here's today's pic of the little doggies that make sure no one walks into our property uninvited :)
(and drop their falling hair all over the bloody place, but we love them nonetheless)

I'd post a picture of my new dog, but he looks a bit like a cartoon that just ran into a wall...

(If you click "Link Options" under the first pic in your album, you can get it to show [IMG] tags, so you can just copy and paste much more quicker... if you're lazy like that.... :) )

Cool, thanks DuneFish.

We adopted him from the Humane Society a couple months ago, his name is Visa (came with the name), he's a five year old mutt. This is a pic of him at the humane society. We're taking some classes with him for agression management (mandatory with this particular dog) because he's really agressive when on-leash (but not really when he's off leash). He's severely overweight (they said he's 8 out of 9, 9 being morbidly obese) so we have him on a diet and take him for lots of walks. He's very cuddly, and just small enough that he can get away with snuggling with us on the couch. His right ear looks like it has some kind of scar, which is why it's hard for him to raise it up (see pic for floppy ear), and he gets some huge crazy-eyes when he's excited (he also gets boners when he's excited, which is actually kinda impressive because he has no balls...).

No one else would adopt him, so we did.

The one named sushi looks hilarious in that picture. Her head looks blackened like it was burnt, in a Looney Tunes sort of way :)

Thing
That picture is comedy. Very cute dog :)

Thanks, I love that pic. He's not really that nuts looking in real life, but it shows his personality pretty well.

sushi's a "Malinois", and her specific breed has that black face look, along with the redhair(most malinois dogs have a lighter color), and she also was rescued but we found her on the street with her leash still on, and when we managed to track down the owner we got his father on the phone. He said that considering how his son was treating the dog it was no wonder she ran away, and that he did not wish for him to have her back. He signed the owning papers in place of his son(!)and me and my ex adopted her from there...

As for him, Image, *i agree he has a bit of weight problem(mine too, the vet said that when they get older theirl legs can't sustain their weight, hopefully we'll have suspensor tech by then :))
And he looks very cute!
One of my friend's dogs, Merlin 45Kgs, is a ball of love(and snot)but he has a biiig problem with wearing a collar, he just lies flat on the floor and howls like his master died or something(this to say that some dogs will never be on a leash, however much love and quality treatment you offer them)

Jack the Wonder Dog.

Kelpie/Border Collie mix,
Voice, hand-signal & whistle trained
(at this point, he damn near reads my mind)

real good with sheep & goats, okay with cattle,
great with kids, and can tell the difference between
cats & squirrels - cats he tolerates & plays well
with, squirrels he chases to New Mexico (which is
where the whistles come in handy)

Lovable dog SR.

The father of a friend of mine has a boarder collie and she is great with kids. (She is black and white)

When my youngest one was around six or seven we use to go over to their house and help them with their garden. I noticed one day that Missy (the collie) kept walking back and forth in front of Isaac and even a few times nudged him. I had never seen her act like this with him and was wondering what had gotten into her until it dawned on me that she was trying to keep him from leaving the field where we were. He had been trying to head to the house for something and she wasn't letting him "leave the fold" I have loved collies ever since. Always liked them before then, but Missy now holds a special place in my heart for her trying to 'protect' Isaac.

she probably thought he was a stray sheep :)
my sushi has been trained but to be a security dog, I've never tried but she must have learned some attack commands, I know that if I say "kneel" she'll literaly jump to my side like if her life depended on it.
And I coulb play "sit"/"lie down"/"sit"/"lie down" for hours!
Hey it's like the BG implating command words that are obeyed by the nervous system

Kali is a bitch for food, my friends were walking down a supermarket aisles when they saw this dog in the meat fridges havin' a good time, just about enough time to think "its owners should be more careful" before realizing it was their dog!
Another time at a party someone camle to them and said Kali was sitting in front of people eating and growled them until they gave up their sandwich

he's a pretty serious, working dog.

like what Eyes said above about collies, you've got to give them work -
if you have little kids, they will try to herd the kids around.

the other two dogs are blue heelers, what we call the Australian Cattle Dogs
down here. they're great stock dogs, real good with cattle (they herd cattle
by nipping at the cattle's heels, hence the nickname) but they are not in any
way the kind of disciplined, eager-to-please dog the way the Border Collies are.

the heelers are yard dogs; Jack's the only one allowed in the house.
