Might be worth having a look at GIMP - It's a free not-Photoshop.
http://www.gimp.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I don't use it myself, but I keep hearing good things.

If you need to re-size the picture, I can help. Just give the word and I'll do it.

FRANK HERBERT
HATES YOU

Or maybe:
YOU NEVER EVEN
MET FRANK HERBERT

yep that logo is perfect, I sort of went for the baboon handwriting feel(as it goes along with trying to draw letters with the mousepad of your laptop), but I will try to use that to see what it looks like.
And then when I'll realize it's gonna take me ages, where someone more proficient would do that eyes closed, I'll come back screaming for help

(help appreciated btw)
I just donwloaded the Gimp(I know the basics from photo filtre studio)so i'ill give it a go tomorrow.

ha ha
Front
"DUNE"
back
"IT'S A BABOON'S JOB NOW"
(now the story with the monkeys and the typewriters comes true

, maybe I'll put one too somewhere)

I tried the Gimp but I'm more used to photofiltre so I'll just work with the free trial version and try and come up with something decent
I just wondered wether once reduced to avatar size it would still be recognizable or if I should go for less elements in the picture

Until Freak or Omph or Ragabash resets the "upload avatar" setting, you're not going to be able to upload whatever you come up with unless you put it on Photobucket or some similar service and link to it.
Just saying.

yep I use image shack(it has a useful tool that allows upload with the right mouse button without having to go through the tedious procedures on their site)
http://rightload.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Well the good thing about this avatar is that I can change the text anytime
It s not difficult just a little tedious as you have to make a complete pic for each part of the text...
unless there is a quicker way to insert that text in a fixed image, but that I don't know how to do
