The scene in GEoD in which Leto II is dying in front of Duncan and Siona and says, "I give you the Golden Path."

When Leto II falls from the bridge into the water at the end of GEoD, and the whole scene that follows.

My favourite part would be when that Guild ship crashes on... ... just kidding

i always liked the final battle in Dune, Shaddam and his arrogant Sardaukar getting bashed by Fremen, atomics and giant worms felt like payback
and Leto II's escape from Shuloch with the first steps of his transformation, I can picture him running and jumping in the desert in my mind's eye.

Which shows what an amazingly talented writer FH was, that even after all this time his tales are so alive in all his readers

In Dune, I've always liked Leto's line: "Here I am and here I remain."

Even though FH hints at a reverse of the hero-myth in Dune, it's that idea I like best about Dune Messiah and ultimately Children of Dune.

on first go-round, when you are an off-worlder with the Atreides ...

the next time you read it, you are Fremen, and it doesn't seem strange at all ...

Just finished CoD again a couple days ago... I agree that the closing section is just amazing, especially the final sentence. There's just something about Frank and awesome ending sentences.

Also, pretty much every time Leto II speaks/appears in GEoD is rather mind-blowing.

One of the initial chapters in Heretics of Dune, where Tarazza goes to see Teg and ask him to become Weapons Master and protect Idaho.

"It is greater than treasure. We have thousands of such caches. Only a few of us know them all."


Hoping to get onto DM tomorrow... Even though I know these books pretty well (especially Dune and DM), I'm actually really excited about getting through them again

This list could go on forever, but here are a bunch that come to mind...

- Duncan emerging naked from a battle with Facedancer replicas, each of them clothed. So clever! And Leto's reaction. (This could be my all-time favourite moment)

- Leto II telling Moneo to kill Malky.

- An aged Duncan failing in an attempt to kill Leto II, and thusly being crushed.

- Jessica taking the water of life. Motes!

- "My sword was firs' blooded on Grumman!" That whole scene.

- The Stoneburner scene and the scene leading up to it.

- Leto II's transformation in CoD.

- Duncan and Murbella meet for the first time. Remembering his lives and uber-fast vagina-fingering.

- Leto II's death "Enough of this madness!"

This, too, was a favorite tingly scene of mine. Now being fremen, and take in the Duke's offering of water. That's spine-tingling as well.

I can't remember anything specific, but I did put the book down a lot and get giddy, thinking to myself how I could have ever put off reading it for so long. Every scene, revelation, character and idea in the book simply was done so right. Ray Bradbury may be my favorite writer, but FH will always be my favorite storyteller.

Actually, my favorite part was probably the appendixes in the back. I can't get enough of reading encyclopedias and history books in real life, so makes sense. (The appendixes of the various Lord of the Rings works are also my favorite part of that series)

Isn't it weird how some people are fascinated with the profiles, histories, and appendixes of fantasy books, and yet real history is like, "yeah, whatever."

That's because the American educational system (not sure about other nations) do a crappy job at getting kids interested. They teach you dates and names, and maybe a story described in one paragraph attached to those. If they could find a way to get it through students' heads that this stuff happened and the people were real, it would be far more exciting. I find it hard to believe things before I was born "really" happened, let alone care about them. Luckily I have the interest to find the stories behind the stories.

I thought about going into education, but I am afraid of what the education system will become while I am teaching. I went to private school for years, and public school for my Senior year was so different for me. I did half a year, and graduated early.

My father has gone through many careers throughout his lifetime, among them computer technician for various places (Bank of America included), carpet cleaning, and what-have-you. The industry he's currently in always seems to collapse, so he figured education would be a safe bet. So now he's a high school English teacher and, what do you know, California is going through a huge educational crisis. Luckily he's held on and done very well for himself as a teacher.

me, personally, of course, I don't give a damn if the kids learn stuff or not -
if some get interested, great, and I'll talk with them and answer questions
for as long as I can stand it, but really, kids & the general public kinda blow
the thing for me - I like to really get into it, so anything anachronistic makes
me irritable.

and on more than one occasion, I've gotten snide remarks and threats from
teachers about the contents of my flask, or steel cup on an "education day",
where they bring in bus loads of kids from local schools.

and on more than one occasion, I've laughed in their faces and told them to
mind their own fucking business.

and on more than one occasion, I've been asked to leave an event ....

I'm reminded of a "historically accurate" reenactment of the Battle of the Alamo on King of the Hill, where the Alamo defenders were portrayed as cowardly drunkards...

my favorite was the Family Guy when they end up down South for some reason ...

I realized there's at least one rape/molestation joke per episode and with sexual abuse personally affecting those I love, I don't want to honour such a show.
