If they ever did become public, there would be uproar once it was determined how little bearing they had on these annual pieces of fanfic that Idiot 1 and Idiot 2 write.
In the Current Generation? no. After Brian has passed on, maybe 25-50 years from now, we might get some young HLP members looking to repair the family name that would be very interested in releasing them, even if only in an academic capacity or maybe to the Fullerton collection. If it ever clicks for Byron that KJA is going to drain Dune for every drop of vitae he can then leave it a dried husk in a dark alley, and that he is destroying the family property then heck, even he might recant. Those who have dealt with her say Kim seems to be a fairly even keel and interested in all of Frank's fans. If it came to her I imagine she'd be open to the idea.

As long as KJA is leeching from the property, none of this will happen.
Hunchback Jack wrote:Brian talks much more than Kevin in this one, partly because some of the questions are more about his father than about the Twain. I had mixed feelings about him - sometimes I wish I could sit down with him and talk about FH, since he clearly knows a lot about him. I think he really believes they're carrying on his father's work, at least in spirit. He also mentions his own early novels, but usually in relation to writing or his father, not really to plug him.
Yeah, I really liked hearing him talk about Frank. I really regret the divide that has come between the HLP and the fans, because I'd love to talk to Brian as well. I'm considering re-reading Winds, because I do believe that there were parts of this that were written by Brian, and I really get the feel in it that its his best attempt at channeling Frank. Don't worry, SC, I'm compiling evidence.

That being said, the book still is a little bully that got sprayed by a skunk. It smells like shit, and it deserves it.

btw, I was the one who said it wasn't on the list. I misconstrued that I was talking about the NYT list.

I was talking about something I had access to that suggested its place based off expected sales, and Winds was not in the top 10 for its release date.

Most lists are actually based off of projected sales based off the number of books ordered and printed, not actually sold. I was wrong about the NYT list, its still a "random sampling of bookstores"/ trade secret. Duration on the NYT list reflects actual sales (as booksellers replenish stock and publishers issue new runs etc), so if Winds is off the list next week, expect to see some Bargain-priced HC Winds of Dune in 3-6 months.

Since the debut is actually lower, this represents the fact that buyers don't expect the book to sell as well as Paul did.

Oh, and Conway, the only "conspiracy" over here was to hold off on posting our 1-star reviews so that the distributors and publishers could see it tank for itself.

There's a GINORmous version of the cover painting (by Steve Stone ... who?) on KJA's blog:

The way they are making a big deal reaching the NYT #15 (which is the lowest on the rung) might suggest they were a little scared this time.

About halfway through listening to this.

KJA: I'm AMAZED and proud that he got here on time.

Wow ... what a rude and un-funny fucker.

About the only new detail I've heard so far is about that anthology Brian was thinking about doing.

Brian's quip about not being able to take legal action to quash the Futurama thing in time was telling, no?

He had an "NSA security guy" check there was nothing else on the floppies?

More:

KJA: We like the gaps because they give us novels to write.

KJA: Right now Peter Berg has signed on as the director.... (Does that mean this could change?)

KJA: We really need to please the toughest Dune fans. And, I think, we're the toughest Dune fans. (Oh, fuck me. )

OK, the guy who says he can't tell the difference between FH's and their writing (around 52:00) has got to be a plant. (KJASF?) That or he's a total complete fricking moron.

Well ... that was special.

Of course. Because everyone knows Dune should just be treated like an assembly line.

How can anyone with a functioning brain not hate this tool?

And what Futurama thing??
In the interview, Brian says something about he understands there was a Futurama episode ... which parodies them? ... and he didn't find out about it until it had already aired and they didn't have time to take legal action to block it. Something about the way he said it made me think his basic reaction to anything that references Dune is to squash first and not even bother to ask questions later.

I know there's a character called Miss Arrakis in an old episode, other than that can't see why they would go after Bender?

or maybe 'coz Bri claims to be the first Bender ever?

Gore's reference to riding "the mighty moon worm" is a reference to Paul Atreides riding a sandworm in Dune.
Don't see how BoBo could have taken legal action against that.

They are probably just angry that the Futurama timeline makes no mention of KJA's books still being in print.

Oh, and I guess in this movie http://futurama.wikia.com/wiki/Into_the ... een_Yonder" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; there were sandworms on Mars.

How unlike Kevin. No Blahgs for two days and they are still on the winds tour. I want to know how the tour is going. You don't suppose there is anything wrong with his health? I know how you would rub your hands in glee at such a thought, but I'd rather he confront an angry fan of Frank Herbert than get sick.

D.I. could you tell us when you crash the event how it went?

I'm still on the fence about going... still a few hours to decide. I probably won't make a scene or anything, maybe have Brian sign some classic Dune and pressure them into releasing the notes.

Any other Canadians interested in coming?

It definitely wouldn't be worth it. Signings are author love-fests, by definition; making a scene would result only in your being escorted out.

And, of course, TheKJA would mention it endlessly for the next 10 years, talking about how the scary Talifan attacked him ...

I asked KJA to sign Road to Dune and asked if they would do another with the Dune 7 outline.

He said anything of interest was published in RtD. That told me all I needed to know (there is no outline.)

I don't know what I'd do, I don't know if I would enjoy meeting them at all.

I'd maybe ask them what FH said the central theme of Dune was, right after asking them what the central theme of Sadworms was, and how the book shows that theme.

Might at least make someone in the crowd think.

OR

I'd wear a Jacurutu shirt and I'd stand by them signing people up to the most active Dune forum on the internet - with a big chart showing all my Us VS Them statistics proving we swamp DN for activity. :D :D :D
