occasional lurker on this site...

greetings all

my opinion of the Duniverse is that Frank knew exactly what he was doing, and wrote 6 awesome books.
the dune associated novels written by other authors, aren't even worth talking about.

look forward to discussing the finer points of the duniverse, all the usual tasty conversational stoppers scattered around dune forums... how did scytale freeze darts to below 600 degrees kelvin, who are daniel & marty, is Leto the QH & how infinite was his prescience, do fremen have smelly feet, etc etc.

That's how I wrote the novel, wanting you to participate with the best of your own imagination. I did not aim for the lowest common denominator and 'write down" to anyone. You and I have a compact and my responsibility is to entertain you as richly as possible, always giving you as much extra as I can. I assume you are intelligent and will enlist your own imagination. You'll see that when you read the Dune excerpt and the other stories in this collection.

Welcome.

Soon a strange Ancient One will arrive to say, "Welcome. Your water is ours."

He is (relatively) harmless. Try giving him a cookie.

Hi semuta!

Would a Fremen's feet smell any worse than his ass?
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hypatia approaches one.

Would a Fremen's feet stink if there was no moisture for fungus to grow?

interesting question
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

You'd still have continually dying skin cells and the bacteria that feed on it.

Ah, I often wondered what the staple diet is for wild fremen. Thanks guys.

Hey Chig, the weather in Wales is erratic, varying from a thousand shades of rain to the occasional baking hot 48 hour period thanks to global worming. Keep revving them engines people :)
