how many dune books did that man write ?!?

Post by lotek »

going through some posts and having a quick look round, I kept seeing references to that "Paul of Dune"...
To be honest I thought it was another jest as to mock the lack of imagination of KJA and the traitor son :) but NO...

it's for real :tissue2:

just when I thought Sandworms of Dune was the end of it... (i know i'm a bit behind on this one)

but hell at least I had one year of merciful ignorance :?

Dune: House Atreides (1999)
Dune: House Harkonnen (2000)
Dune: House Corrino (2001)
Dune: The Butlerian Jihad (2002)
Dune: The Machine Crusade (2003)
Dune: The Battle of Corrin (2004)
The Road to Dune (2005)
Hunters of Dune (2006)
Sandworms of Dune (2007)
Paul of Dune (2008)
The Winds of Dune (expected August 2009)

I think his goal is twice as many as FH in 1/4 the time... and on time, no excuses.

wow... in a horrified way though

I did read some of them but i didn't find the solace I expected when reaching the climax of the golden path in sandworms, I think some answers are best not given(to me that's the strength of any good writer, being able to let the reader fill the gaps in his mind's eye by just showing the tip of the iceberg_or of the sandworm in that case)

edit: the road to dune was not so bad but hey who really wrote it? ;)

Don't believe the hype, the climax of the Golden Path was in GEoD (the path is all downhill from there). NONE of there books are worth reading except to fan the flames of hatred.

Yeah, don't read their books. It just encourages them.

i'm ashamed that i did buy one...

but when I heard it was based on material from FH I expected to find some traces of that material, but even I could have written better novels without knowing nothing of the dune universe...
but what to expect from a man who writes star wars novels... (I like SW as a middle aged geezer who grew up with it, no mistakes about that, but as novels they really are for undemanding teenagers)

Yeah, they got most of us with that lie.

i believe that's the worst part of it, just plain marketing well targeted and b****r collateral damage to disappointed fans...
and the fact that most fans probably had come to terms with the fact there would be no more dune novels, now to go through that grief again...
it's like Frank Herbert dying twice for me in that respect

But that outline exists, they showed us pictures of the floppy disks!

they learned one lesson well:
* If you believe certain words, you believe their hidden arguments. When you believe something is right or wrong, true or false, you believe the assumptions in the words which express the arguments. Such assumptions are often full of holes, but remain most precious to the convinced.

took me a while to find a relevant quote ;)

Yeah, don't feel bad. A lot of us bought the Dune 7 books for that reason. Even after the House and Legends series warned us against it.

The legitimacy that the fabled "outline" gave those two was undeserved, needless to say.

I've really reached my limit with the "outline" or "the notes" or whatever.

First of all: pix or it doesn't exist.

Secondly: even if something does exist, it doesn't justify pushing out annual McDune books that are the literary equivalent of cotton candy.

Third: pix or it doesn't exist.

I don't know if stained disks matter, but i remember 5' disks being rather easy to injure. Wasn't there a discussion somewhere about Frank's dislike of working on computer although he did own one?

Wasn't it Brian (another relative maybe?) who talked him into getting one?

I'm pretty sure it was Brian. (Or at least Brian took credit for it in RtD.)

Some irony, huh?
