This looks great!

It does look good, that trailer was nice but felt a little cheated by the combat crescendo 4/5 of the way through it.

Meh. Is post-apocalyptic the big "thing" the last few years? Or is it a trend that's been fairly balanced too long for me to notice the pattern?

Omph's into it and that's cool, but I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, I guess. I figure such is too close to how things are going to go in reality, so give me positive escapist stuff about colonies in space.

Like, I tried watching some of that SciFi "Peyton Place with Nukes & Black Ops" bullshit series ... what was it, Jericho? Left me colder than a fly-blown, zombie-picked-over corpse.

One of the most important themes in the history of SF, its started appearing more and more a we approached the magical year 2000. People just fear big, round numbers, I guess. They associate them with change, or the return of Jehasus or something like that. Plus that asshat Bush II couldn't have helped matters any. I'll bet three months after he said "crusade" in 2002 the magazines were filled with apocalypse stories. Once 2012 passes my theory is that it will wind down and people will start caring about fucking and drinking for fun again, instead of out of fear or as relief from it. When that happens the literature should change too.

I've enjoyed my fair share of (real) science-fiction stories dealing with post-apocalyptic themes (a favorite is Brin's The Postman), though as far as films go, movies like Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and to a degree I am Legend have left a bad taste in my mouth.

I think movies can be intelligent, but they have in the past and more obviously now cater to a different scene. Readers and watchers are just different and you can easily find that out by taking a look at fans of literary masterpieces and film classics: they're usually very divided.

So as far as this movie, I'm going to be apprehensive yet hopeful.

I don't care what theme it is, if it's a good story it works. The Road was post-apocalyptic and it was fantastic. Can't wait for the film adaptation. This new Denzel flick looks good too, I don't care if it's pre-apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic or apocalyptic-challenged
