L Ron Rebecca

While browsing the local Borders came across a copy of the XXIV WoTF anthology with a contribution from Rebecca Moesta.

She basically wrote a short piece stating that L Ron Hubbard was a "writer's writer" because he could crank out books and any subject.

In short, she says he was one of the greats.

And she likes KJA...

What other brilliant insights might she have on literature?

This is incredibly insightful. Now I understand why she and KJA are married :)

Not a huge surprise, but very telling.

She's firmly in the "quantity trumps quality" camp, so it makes sense that:

1. She marries the world's most notorious hack;

2. She worships LRH, a guy who makes TheKJA look slow. No one cranked them out like ol' Elrond.

Interesting that she gets to "contribute," being the famous author that she is (*cough*). Does she even have any solo credits?

Teg likes to crank these topics out. That makes him a real poster's poster.

It is now!
Firmly is probably a poor choice of words in that case. :P

No, actually. I've always had a "family is off-limits" policy for my message-board posting. I'll drag TheKJA and Bobo down into the mud at any time (and for the flimsiest of reasons), but their families are off-limits. Well, except for Merritt ... he is a facilitator. And maybe I'll take a jab at Becky's "writing," like I did above, but no more than that.

It works for me; I'm not saying it's right or wrong. It's just easier for me to respect some sort of line.

Like I've said, making fun of someone's fat wife is below us. It's just too easy.

Due to her weight, she counts as two authors.

OR

Only if you count the times she ate her co-author.

If you wanted to get technical, even though their sins are mostly of the omission rather than the commission type, any member of the HLP is open game, but other than Brian and Byron (and KJA as an honorary(?) member), they all keep quiet and out of the light, so I'm content to leave them alone ... like cockroaches I know are in the kitchen but can't be bothered to put out poison for. But 'Becca has been an active supporter of the Kevvy since the old MySpace blahg days (sticking up for his asinine "it's impossible to keep mistakes out of books" argument), so she's a combatant.

(Kim Herbert is out there, too, but she genuinely seems like a nice person, if kinda dumb, so abusing her feels kinda like kicking a friendly puppy. And who needs to go after her for that when we got B.B. right here. :P )

I'm inclined to agree, once you step into the spotlight you're fair game.

I need a grudge first. When it comes to Kim, she never gave me one. Actually, she helped me a few times, and never held a thing that I said about her dad against me. That means to me that she wants to be a non-com, and deserves none of my bile.

Byron? Fuck him.

With a dried out oil drum. ;)

Yeah, she was really nice in the few messages we exchanged on MySpace. I got the impression, at least, that she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. And she genuinely seems to love her father, without the "circle the wagons" shill bullshit you get from Byron since his wholesale sell-out.

I gave her some shit when she first started her MySpace page, for playing the "grandaughter" of FH card and general bad design, but she's off the radar now. :)

I tend to think Rebecca's off-limits as well, but your mileage may vary.

Of course, anything she says publicly (such as her "bathtime" tweets) are totally open for comment.

HOLLYWOOD, CA—Rebecca Moesta, award-winning author of over 30 books—both adult and young adult science fiction and fantasy—has been named as a writing judge for the L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future Contest. The announcement came today from Author Services, Inc., the literary agency and administrator of the Contest.

Now in its 23rd year, the Writers of the Future Contest awards annual cash prizes totaling $30,000 for writers and illustrators of never-before-published works of science fiction and fantasy. It includes annual publication of the year’s winning stories in the anthology titled L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future (Galaxy Press).

Moesta, who lives in Colorado with her husband and fellow writer, Kevin J. Anderson, has been writing in earnest since 1991. She has written 14 best-selling Young Jedi Knights novels, and 3 Junior Jedi Knights novels. She has also written novels based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the StarCraft computer game, the animated movie Titan A.E., and a Star Trek graphic novel. She and Anderson are currently working on book three of their original young adult fantasy series Crystal Doors.

Another fucking family affair, it looks like.

Has anyone ever read any of her stuff? That blurb makes her sound like as big a franchise pirate hack as Kevvy.

Feh.
