So ... not a fan, then? ;)

I don't know much about Chomsky's political ideas, although I have read some of his very early work on the Vietnam War. From what I've seen of him recently, he's become way more strident and less articulate. He tends to treat people who debate him as either idiots or shills, which doesn't impress me much.

What's the "scientific discipline" you mentioned - political science, or linguistics?

Linguistics, of course. ;)

(I don't recognize the other one. :P )

Liked that one, did you? :)

It'll be interesting after the old fuck is dead and cold and someone finally writes a complete biography. It'll serve as another cautionary tale against "heroes".

Right now it's a toss-up as to which I hate more, Chomsky or TheKJA.

Chomsky is the much greater evil, because he has spewed his evil political bile for far longer, and because he essentially turned a scientific discipline into pseudoscience and has effectively retarded its development for over half a century. I do hope he doesn't tarry in following his wife into the grave.

Compared to that, TheKJA is a rank amateur, a non-event that will be forgotten soon after he's gone.
are you serious?>

BTW this makes me think that, I do not have the "credentials" to give my opinion on writers like KJA or Noam Chomsky, because, the last time I read KJA was almost ten years ago (The Houses Trilogy and before it a pair of Star Wars novels) I barely remember anything, and about Noam Chomsky I have never read anything by him, I simply found this quote on another website and posted it here. I was to post it over there at DN but I cannot even breath without any thin-skinned person calling me a troll; they do not believe in free speech. I opted for linking the quote to my CoS prosecution joke.

Should I stop posting to Jacurutu? Do I need to buy the newer Dune novels in order to give my opinion on KJA? What would Hypatia think if she read this? :)

the SandChigger has allowed his hatred of Chomsky for his
linguistical theories (of which the SandChigger is an expert)
to spill over and become hatred for All Things Noam, including
his political theories (of which the SandChigger is not an expert)

I, on the other hand, find Noam Chomsky to be one of the handful
of sane men left on the political scene, and know less than nothing
about the Aquisition of Language .....

and, in an unrelated story, my youngest son is now dating a stripper.

That's fairly accurate.

Except I wouldn't call myself an "expert" on his theories: I stopped paying attention to his scribblings after I realized how full of shit he is.

Just remember that he's really a mathematician. (His classification of formal language types, for example, called the Chomsky hierarchy, is a real result that has proven important in computer programming language research.) He applied mathematics to the analysis of language (or language as he redefined it) and caused a bit of a stir (an empty revolution), then parlayed his growing notoriety into supposed expertise in other fields, like political analysis.

You can be his fanboy if you want; I'd rather not.

Going out with a stripper is like eating fast food, at first it seems like a great idea, after you finish you sort of regret that you put something so filthy in your mouth.
