Me.
tell us, man.
I wear orthotics that prevent severe foot and knee pain. I also pay close to $6,000 a year for insurance. The only way I can get these $400-500 shoe inserts paid for is if I somehow get diabetes, otherwise it's out of pocket. A couple of years ago I had a broken bone in my foot that needed to be removed, it was considered an elective surgery. Admittedly, those are not life-saving procedures but they were things that caused intense pain and needed to be addressed. I pay out-of-pocket for a number of doctor visits and medications that I have previously needed.

There was even a time when I needed physical therapy for my back that involved sitting in a traction chair. Instead of letting me rent the chair to have at home for a month the insurance company made me go to the clinic to use it 4 times a week which was about 300% more in cost to them.

My wife's issues with her insurance have been far worse. Any treatment regarding infertility are considered elective and are out-of-pocket expenses. Women really get the short end of the insurance stick when it comes to services that are covered or not.
See, that's the thing. Not only do the uninsured get screwed over, but so do the insured! People who have paid the premiums for years or decades suddenly find themselves on their own when it comes time to pay for treatment. This is usually due to some clever fine print, or an insurance claims adjuster looking for a promotion. That's what insurance companies do, they specialize in finding clever ways not to help people.

I mean really, why would you prefer a profit-driven insurance company between you and your doctor? As opposed to no one at all? Really. That's how it works up here. There are no bureaucrats deciding whether or not we get care. The government actually shells out the money to the hospitals, so they can deal directly with us. It's pretty sweet. I think there are some misconceptions down there about the government "deciding" whether or not you get care, and I'm not sure about what's really in the bill but somehow I doubt the US gov plans to act like an insurance company in that way.

Notice how Obama's bill has gone from "Health Care Reform" to "Health Insurance Reform"?

And, the government HC option was essential to HC reform last week, now it looks like it won't even be included (thank god). You think HC insurance companies are bad now? Wait until they have to compete with a government insurance company that can loose money every year.

Well that's just weak. Even from the get-go, his bill was never fully universal healthcare. I never knew the full details, but that's what I heard. And now it's even further away from universal? Lame.

US politicians (and citizens too) really need to start looking at other examples of countries with great universal healthcare systems. A lot of them have fantastic service, and no one calls them "government-takeovers" or "socialists" (unless they are in fact socialists :P).

But I guess it's too late now. The propaganda machine succeeded. Private Interest wins again.

I don't think so, I think the administration just now realized that it is not the care but the insurance that people have problems with.

Most of the doctors I've been to have been great and don't have problems with the service.

Well, if any of you are wondering how well universal healthcare is has worked out for Canada, check this out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greatest_Canadian" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Tommy Douglas, founder of universal healthcare in Canada, was named "The #1 Greatest Canadian of all time" by a two-part voting process associated with a CBC series called "The Greatest Canadian."

Douglas reformed healthcare back in the 1960's, and Canadian citizens haven't looked back since. Meanwhile, the US is the only industrialized nation on earth without universal healthcare. You'll catch up sooner or later.

And don't worry, the rest of us won't pressure you into using metric too. ;)

I like the metric system. 152 milimeters sounds a lot better than 6 inches.

But when it comes to weight it makes you sound scrawny... which I guess would be nice if you're overweight, but I'll never have a clue what the hell I weight in metric, or how tall I am in metric, and I supposedly grew up with the system.

I'd say one through ten, twice, to keep it close t the normal hour length, like the pic above.

Dude, I was totally thinking of this on the way into work today! A joke very much like it was in an old Robin Williams album and I got that stuck in head earlier. Like SC just said elsewhere, great minds, eh?

I think they're serious about the metric clock -
I did a quick image search for kicks, figgered there'd
be a joke image - but return was a ton of different
analog clocks & some digital ones, too.

not interested enough to follow-up, tho,
there's always some assholes out to change
the way everything is done. (the French)

Speaking of, I hear car dealers aren't getting paid and are stuck with all the clunkers they dissabled.

Not exactly true. There is a paperwork backlog, that has been addressed with the hiring of hundreds of employees. Also, there are dealers who are not disabling the cars until they know the money is coming. I'm sure they're thankful for the sales.

How is it not true? Hiring new people to do paperwork or not only 3% of the deals have been payed.

Yeah... I want those people in charge of my health.

Like Obama said earlier today on right-wing radio...
If they're not careful with verifying the paperwork people will jump all over them and say, "Look at all the money the Government is wasting!" because they'd be making payments to quickly without verification.

He's fucked either way by people like you. I don't care if it takes them two months to get their money. They'll get it and they'll be happy about it. They sure as hell weren't selling cars before this happened.

I can't believe people are okay with insurance companies denying people for any fucked up reason and then making billions off of us.

Dealer lots are full of dissabled cars. They're dissabled because they have to do that as part of the deal. If their paperwork is turned down, now they can't even sell them as used cars, they're just scrap!

Bend over, let me take your temperature.

#1 car turned under "cash for clunker" - Ford Explorer

#1 car purchased under "cash for clunkers" - Toyota Corolla

UAW hates Obamba now, too ...

and Bank of America turned in some ungodly multi-billion dollar profit
for the quarter - mostly on their new jacked-up fee schedule ...

and the Taliban have apparently succeeded in stopping the
(bogus, CIA directed) election in Afghanistan.

and I just made a mortgage payment for one the young kids
who (used to) work with me, one of New Union Blood - atleast
his family will have a place a live for the next few months until
we can find him some work ....

for the richest, most advanced and prosperous nation on the face
of the earth, I sure know a lot of poor people ....

I guess it's all relative, tho ... I've seen human beings living in
cardboard boxes in hip deep mud, being napalmed by ... oh, yeah, us.
