Maybe if you try rehosting it at photobucket or something?

(Refreshing the page three times made no difference, but if I right-click and "open image in new window", I can see it. Hmm. :? )

(Now it's showing for me in all comments. Who knows! )

Yeah, you need to try to host that bad boy, not hot-link it.

I always have to right click and "view image" when you post a picture hosted on your blog.

OH and I tried doing that for the image here and I got this message.

Really? Sorry about that. :(

I just find it simpler to throw things onto my own site and link rather than fool with the bandwidth piggy interfaces of the image hosting sites. :?

We got our first promotional stand for Winds on Friday. Unfortunately our store has a small floor space that requires us to ignore anything under first priority. It wasn't impressive, just a standard cardboard display full of the KJA paperbacks with the Jessica's Ass art on the headboard.

Strangely it didnt have any Paul of Dune MM's nor a copy of Frank Herbert's Dune. Maybe the marketing Department is avoiding those for certain reasons: Paul because its trashier than most, and Dune because they don't want to remind readers how good the originals were.

Hmm - the lack of FH Dune is a bit of a weird one - especially as they're using the "Sequel to Dune" line on POD and WOD this time around.

I wouldn't read too much into it - it's probably just incompetence... again.

It's alright, you don't post a lot of images anyway.

Was just trollin' the 'Zon and found this on the PoD hardcover page:
Item Under Review

While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
Interesting.

I think "it sucks" falls under one of those catagories.

Missing pages or something would be funny.

But how could you tell?

Oh yeah ... the page numbers! :P

Really weird word division at a line break I caught earlier this evening in WoD: of-fworld.

I nearly laughed my ass off.

Missing pages would be funny. The fact that no one noticed until now would be hysterical.

KJA latest Blog post shows a new design for the Pail of Dung mass-market PB:

Image

Trying to distance it from itself? ;)

BTW, the blog also announces a new chapter of Winds on the Macmillan site. I suppose if someone had an ARC, they could compare to see if anything's changed ...

It looks like the guy in the robe is being bent over and about to be poked in the butt.

Actually ... yes! :P

I compared the text I have with the text of "chapter" 2 on the site: They're the same. :)

As I Tweeted back at TheKJA when he Twatted about the blahg post, "Oh come on, we are SO beyond that now. Ch 2 Gurney & dogs. Ch 3 Shaddam's envoy. Ch 4 Jessica & Gurney on the Guildship. Ch 4 ...". (Look, he's so repetitive, there are TWO "chapter" 4s! :P )

(Yeah, typo, and just noticed.  )

Looks like they're adopting the "cover art over whole cover" UK style and ditching the crappy "mini art" US one. Did you notice that they've reversed the painting as well? (Paul & whoever were standing on the left facing right before.) I wonder if we should read anything more into this "reversal"... :P

OH MY GOD, IS THAT FRANK HERBERT?!

Oh, no, just Paul Atreides. Standing in, symbolically, for the entire Dune Chronicles, bent over and wide open, ready to take another one from KJA & friend right up the ole chute.

Harry of Dune ?!

Actually, that would fit KJA to ripoff Potter for material : Memory lost spells, pukin slugs, etc...that's to his level...

Its an obvious attempt to make them look more like the Original covers. A good sign that TOR knows the franchise is in need of revitalization. Here's a hint TOR: its not the cover that sucks.

In this case the little cosmetic changes are probably cheaper to start with.

Hey, Omph, would a publisher breaking the contract with an author incur much in the way of financial difficulties?

Re: Has anybody read Paul of Dune?

Posted: 01 Aug 2009 20:20
by Omphalos
Changing the cover is probably not a breach. Tor probably withholds that right. Breach of contract usually leads to two measures of damages. 1) liquidated damages, where the contract spells out what is recoverable in the event of a breach. 2) reasonable damages, which are essentially the value of the loss to the party which suffered the breach. We're talking KJA here, so really, they could only make things better. I don't see any exposure.

However, if Keith wants another contract for the next bunch of literal-diarrhea he splashes out he'll just keep his fucking mouth shut.

Sorry if that wasn't clear; the cover issue and breach question weren't really connected. I really wanted to know what the downside for the publisher would be if they decided to ax him, breaking their contract for the remaining books, and you answered that. :)
