Phoenix self destructs

Post by GamePlayer »

Yes, the fine actor behind "Gladiator" and "Walk The Line" has become a rapper. Not only is this sad because of the loss of a fine acting career, but Joaquin is about 10 years too late to the party for rap.

the horror, the horror...
TMZ Website Ridicules Actor-turned-Rapper Phoenix

19 January 2009 1:34 AM, PST

Joaquin Phoenix, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, has now adopted the persona of a rap artist, and his recent performances in Las Vegas, Nv and Culver City, CA have been lampooned by the celebrity website TMZ. The website has posted clips of the nearly unrecognizable Phoenix, paunchy and bearded, clumsily imitating the gestures of hip-hop performers and being nearly drowned out by the noise from the crowd watching him. "The guy just quit acting to become a rock star," TMZ commented on the Culver City clip, "and if this freestyle disaster is any clue as to how his music career will go, let's just say it's DOA." As for the Las Vegas clip, it remarked, "The delusional former actor has given up a promising career for a Federline future" (a reference to Britney Spears's former husband, whose efforts to launch a career as a hip-hop star -- "K-Fed" -- never got past the starting gate).
I'm just stunned. Maybe this is all a publicity stunt, or something...

That's pathetic. I just don't see him becoming a success in that way. he's already loved by a very large audience, and now he wants to appeal to a younger, more low-brow audience? He must be in it for the drug hook-ups.

He's such a good actor too. I liked him in Signs (not the best movie, but a great performance by Joaquin), and you gotta love his role in To Die For, as the manipulated teen who Nicole Kidman blows and hires to kill her husband.

Although, I really didn't care for that cop movie he just did with Duvall and Wahlberg. Kind of bleh...

I thought it was about the NFC Championship game yesterday ... but then I thought, "Wait ... the Cardinals won." Then I got confused.

I remember when Dewey Cox got into rap. I hated that whole Didgeridoo thing.

He was just trying to find his fucking voice again man! It could've worked, but we'll never know because you miss 100% of the shots you don't take! You can't wait for your ship to come in, you've got to swim out to it! Dewey's phase needed to happen for him to get to the next level.

I always assumed it was a hairlip scar.

In fact, not too long ago we were discussing the same scar when someone mentioned Joaquin Phoenix as a good candidate to play Duncan Idaho. I pondered if that would be a good idea, considering the serial gholas would all have the same scar, and we weren't sure if a cleft pallette would repeat or not.

But now, after seeing this, I'm not sure if I want him anywhere near a Dune film.

What does a dog with a hairlip say?

Comming off that last post, I think Chirstian Bale could make a good Duncan Idaho.

of course I think Shia Lebeuff could make a good...
