Hi Everyone!
Hi, I'm new, thought I'd say hi. I've been a fan of FH's Dune for nearly 17 years, and I posted a couple of times on the old Dreamers of Dune site, with the same username. I've been observing the changes in online Dune for a while now and thought it was time that I started talking instead of just reading.
For me, Dune is much like Tolkien is for a lot of my friends - part obsession and part love affair (and, in recent years, a source of some frustration ) I'm sure a lot of people on this forum can relate. In 1997 I started working on a Dune RPG that's been an on-again, off-again project of mine and is now practically finished (I've even played it a couple of times with friends. It went well.)
Other than that, I've got an MA in history or something and a BA in theatre. Obviously, I'm not a fan of material wealth.
I look forward to some interesting discussions, it's good to be here.

Howdy and welcome.

Thanks for all the warm greetings, everyone.
to DuneFishUK: I was wrong about the date, thinking about it I think I would have started my Dune RPG back in '95. What had originally been a system taken directly from Chaosium has gradually evolved into an add-on for a generic system that I started developing around six years ago. I thought about starting a thread about it but there's really nothing else to say
I don't ever intend to distribute the game or try to pitch it, knowing that if I did that I'd either a) get sued or threatened by the HLP or b) have to get their input. I'm not really interested in either scenario. It's just something for me to play with friends and a great way for me to organize my thoughts on FH's writings.

we need a Frank Herbert Legacy Legal Defense Fund.
I'd love to get those cocksuckers in a courtroom - we'd lose,
because there's no legal footing for using the Dune trademark
without their approval, but the media circus would be fun.
I'd like to start with the Spanish Dune Film. Just set it up and
start showing it. Fuck them. Sue me. My lawyers will call your lawyers.
I'll call Entertainment Tonight.

"Tonight on ET, a few dozen nerds are involved in a legal battle with the corporate entity that owns the rights to distributing material based on Dune, an obscure series of science-fiction novels previously thought by many to be merely a god-awful movie from the eighties. That's coming up, but first we have exclusive photos of Kevin J. Anderson's latest slip! Looks like photographers got some shots of Kevin's vagina during a rigorous hiking expedition. I guess Kevvie won't be wearing those Daisy Dukes in public anymore, but at least some pretards have something to wank themselves to sleep to tonight."SandRider wrote:we need a Frank Herbert Legacy Legal Defense Fund.
