The 2008-2009 Jacurutu college bowl pool!

Post by TheDukester »

All right, that does it! You guys want some football? I've got your football right here, pal.

Back up your college football yapping if you dare ... it's time for a bowl pool!

I've started a group over at Yahoo, which does an annual bowl-picking contest. It's free, it's easy, and I figure more of us here are likely to already have some form of Yahoo account than, say, an ESPN account. For those without accounts: it takes like 17 seconds to sign up.

Anyway, here's the details:

Game page: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/bowl

Group name: KJA: Penis-less Hack Douchebag

Group ID: 32375

Password: kjasucks

You'll need the password to get in, as the group is set to "private." That will ensure the preeks can't join.

How it works: pick all 34 bowl games (no point spread, just winners), then rank them by "confidence." The game you're absolutely dead-sure of would be your 34-point pick ... the game you haven't the slightest clue about would be your 1-point pick, etc., etc. It's easy, and many of you have probably done a bowl pool before.

You'll know you're in the right place when you see The Hack-Slayers ... the entry that will inevitably win this thing.

Now bring it!

(If'n y'all aren't a-scairt, of course ...)

Football is for sissys who can only run for a few seconds and then take a tea break.

Obviously you are referring to futball. I can appreciate a good soccer
game, and I know how crazy people get over it outside the US, but I can
NEVER tolerate the pussies who writhe around on the ground like they've
lost a limb, and are running around 2 minutes later. Posers.

If by futball you mean american football, then yes. That is what I mean. :D

Merits of the respective sports aside, you have to admit it's rather
pusillanimous behavior of the soccer players with their "injuries."

on hating football

Post by Sole Man »

I used to like football, but now I show a mild intrest in it. Its just not violent enough...

Anyway, if you get caught hating football down here, you're declared gay and you get lynched. Clean and simple.

Good luck with your surgery SandRider. Hope it's nothing too major.

And I'll try to get over there and fill out my picks but I'm notorious for skipping out on these online things.

And BTW, it's called the Mountain West.....and we'll be seeing you soon. Utah is 26-6 in the last 15 years when we have more than two weeks to prepare.

I just watched the SEC chamionship game again tonight and you guys have some tough players. Wilson has a gun and Jones is a monster. Coffee keeps me up at night. :D

You'll get to know Johnson, Casteel, Asiata, and Kruger soon enough.

The first game isn't until the 20th, so there's definitely plenty of time.

And, in case anyone is wondering, you can edit your picks right up until the last minute. You're not stuck with your initial picks until the bitter end.

You all need to stop playing a pansy's game, take off the pads and get into rugby. That'll teach y'all what a man's game is! 8)

Please

You try running into a 220 lb. running back at full speed while he's also running at full speed and lowering his shoulder to knock your ass out.

Football is even more violent BECAUSE of the pads.

Hear hear! :D

Seriously, I've no problem with people playing and doing them themselves, for fun or health, and even I like to go watch a local game of whatever from time to time. I just don't understand why it has to be on the tube.

And I will never EVER understand PAYING people OUTRAGEOUS salaries to PLAY GAMES.

Fucking looney world.

and the Heisman goes to little Sammy Bradford, of the University of Oklahoma.

I picked that one !

Altho my heart was with Colt, he was a 6-man player from Buffalo Gap, I watched him play quite a bit in high school - knew he was very, very good, but never really expected the run he's had at the UT.

By the way, haters, 3 nominees - 1 SEC, 2 Big 12 South.

To the Canadians:

Ya'll go ahead and join in this pool, just pick whatever, or go with the favorites, those picks are on the site.

In return, I'll join in a pool for the Stanley Cup or the National Curling Championship, or whatever it is you people do up there. Snowboarding, Baby Harp Seal Clubbing, Ice Dancing, whatever.

(you come on it, too, Chigger. I'll join a pool for the Sumo Tournament)(what the hell do those people play ? Just baseball ?)

First bowl is Friday - Duke, can you join & change picks up til gametime ?
I couldn't find any indication of the deadline.

{edit}
The final day to sign up for Yahoo! Sports College Bowl Pick'em is January 7, 2009. On January 1, you will no longer be able to leave your current group. To fully experience the game, it is recommended to sign up before the first bowl game begins on December 20, 2008.

The deadline to make or change your picks is five minutes before each game is scheduled to begin.
found it. That's bullshit. I guess if you join after the bowls begin on the 20th, you'll have to have some hella picks to have a chance at winning

Changing 5 minutes before gametime is for pussies, too.
Pick 'em, pick 'em all right now, and stand by it.

For an award that should be re-named "Recognizable Quarterback from a Winning Team." Big deal.

You know what won Bradford that award? Television. Oklahoma played virtually the entire second half of it season in the ABC prime-time slot on Saturday night. You can look it up.

The best player in the country was Tennessee defensive back Eric Berry:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk7Oj8wm ... r_embedded

Of course, he played for a losing team ... strike one ... and played defense ... strike two ... and was not on prime-time TV enough ... strike three; he's out.

The Heisman is a farce.

Bitter & cynical !! (I like it!)

And, I can't really argue with you on your points.
(I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "farce", but I get where you're coming from.)

Yes. To follow up on this thought, it's usually best in these sorts of pools to fill out a complete entry before the first deadline. It's too easy to forget to "go back and finish it up," especially with the holidays and all that. I've seen that happen to lots of people.

I don't mind the "five-minute rule." It allows for changes if the quarterback gets hurt or whatever.
