Wow, it's getting to be like an annual event, huh? Does this mean Uncle Mike forgot to watch the database size again?

(My database apps seem to be fine at the moment, so it's not a Network Solutions server problem. Assuming they haven't jumped providers with the snazzy new site upgrade. )

Give them a break. The server can only cope with so much stupid before it startes to creak under the strain.

Oh, they were implementing changes. Apparently, hunters and sandworms are part of a new section called the "grand finale" :puke: and winds of dune and paul of dune are now part of a section called heroes of dune, and the rest is Dune, Dune, Dune.

Dune to the Dune of Dune

Omph - I'm truly a sucker for stupidity. It's either there or look at youtube comments

Didn't Byron try to distance himself from the Heroes of Dune title? Now he's got a whole little section for it. He's the worst sell-out of the bunch because he just takes it and takes it and feeds it back to everyone as quality.

That would have been a good question for DC...

Was the title "Heroes of Dune" meant as sarcasm or irony?

I'm sure you can see where this is going?

Having now viewed the "Extended Prologue", I'm sure we're going to be told, sooner or later, that its version of a machine domination of humans was written by FH for the Lynch film, and/or that they've found his original drafts of that version in the Notes.

Wait for it.

 Bloody hell, can't he tell when something just looks absurd?? In the brand spanking new (read: empty) Butlerian Jihad forum there are now three of the book covers: the first a mahooosive 10 inches by 7 inches, the third barely 1 inch by 0.5 inches - it's like looking at a scale model of the Sun and the Earth

I had a post deleted over there today when someone in the Classic Dune section asked what book he should read next and I told him American Gods.

Looks like only Byron and Poey are able to answer in that thread.

FH seemed to have a message to impart, something that seeps in and never goes away. BH/KJA are just bringing back that universe, so you get more of the characters and story, which is very cool, just not any of the message, that's o k, Frank put enough in himself.
Baliset wrote:I don't mean to moderate here, but is this just another thread of the many that evolved into yet another FH vs BH/KJA thread?
boardadmin wrote:It happens. But we're being civil about it ...which is unique compared to other forums.
OK, so what do we have here?

A moron opining that FH put enough content into his Dune books that it's OK if McDune is content-free. (He's GOT to be an OH sockpuppet, right? )

A second prissy moron who HASN'T EVEN READ THE ORIGINALS yet whining about something he can't possibly even understand.

And the biggest myron of the piece touting a COMPLETELY ARTIFICIAL & DISHONEST civility that exists only because of his NET NAZI deletions & editing of comments that don't agree with the official HERBERT LEECH PARADE ideology and his own tight-assed idea of "polite discourse". He actually has the gall to criticize "other forums"?! (And you know exactly who he means by that ... but of course he can't say it because the name "Jacurutu" is one of those words he edits out, the stupid fuck! )

Ah, it's a good day, today! :D

Kickass Kwisatz wrote:
Xianghua wrote:Its only a few people, but seriously, Frank Herbert isn't Jesus or anything.
Exactly! This is my main point against the arguments of people like Nebiros. What is so holy about FH's work that makes him infallible? I mean, I can think of a certain other bearded Dune writer who is much more of a Jesus-like figure in my mind. But I don't want to make this a religious argument.

What I'm really getting at is how the original six books are relatively dull compared to the new adventures. I read them a long time ago once, but I've read Sandworms like twice! I'm in the middle of Winds right now, just got to the part where Bronso and Paul try to see the navigator. Very cool stuff, and it adds a lot to the character of Paul Atreides.
Xianghua wrote:Any more? You can just read your precious books by FH and ignore these. I'd like some of these people I've seen on Amazon.com to come over here. There're only like seven of them.

LOL @seven people! That pretty much settles it. Majority rules, the new Dune books rock! Hey, we should compare the site traffic on this board with wherever it is that they post, just to show them how truly pathetic their little "OH movement" is. Anyone know how to do that?
Um, well, actually Thang has demonstrated how much more active this site is in terms of posts.

That thread is worth a look, because it features both the return of DuneCunt Hypatia (Mmmm, smell the batter rotting!) and another post in a flood by new member "Onasander" (Joined: 27 Sep 2009 Posts: 25 Location: Cincinnatti, Ohio ... N.B. That's the Cincinnatti with two Ts, not the one with only one, where our friend Simon lives!)! He's fairly tedious in this thread, but this, in response to Schu in another one, is PURE GOLD:
Onasander wrote:I would hesitate to use occam's razon on anything, much less science fiction- it's not a function that yields results- if anything, occam's razor is a excuse to dodge the issue and should only be used in scenarios with excelling stupid people who can be mislead away from arguments with such a silly and useless tool. It's a hat trick, and if it's declared, I dislodge it forcefully to the shock and amazement of the declarer- no reason to play by it's rule- has no authentic place in discourse aiming for factual understanding as it is inherently a gamble on methodology- a shot into the unknown launched not in the hopes of being correct- but in the demand it is so. Only a fool could rely on that. [two subsequent paragraphs snipped]
Or how about this, from another thread (FOR LOVERS OF BOTH CLASSIC DUNE AND THE PREQUELS » Question about dates (Butlerian Jihad)):
Onasander wrote:Let it be known, AD is not AD as we know it, but rather, stands for 'After Douche'- a douche so terrible that existed in the far future that everyone decided to reject the old calendar (among man things), and focusing on the date of his death as dayone of the new calendar. It is not known how far apart the dune AD and our present day is separated..... all we can be sure of, is what a douchebag he must of been.
Words fail me.

It literally is becoming a smorgasbord of STUPID over there. I'd laugh my ass off if it weren't that it's supposed to be the official website representing Frank Herbert's legacy. :(
