Err, I do believe Erasmus(sp?) is a name from ancient Greece/Rome, but not sure(and can't bother making a Wiki' search).

Erasmus was a Dutch philosopher in the 15th and 16th century, of course Erasmus was not his real name.

edit: was only two centuries of.

Well, I could've sworn I saw some refrence somewhere to some ancient guy with that name.

So...why did KJA name his abominable creation that way? Did the historical one also like to disect people, or whatever JKA's creation does in those Legends books(been too long from my last read...no, my mistake, haven't been long enough  )?

He probably associates the name with some...great thinker from history. Who was like Dr Mengele. And liked to pull people's bodies apart.

There was also a Saint with that name ... somewhere in the 3rd of 4th century.

I know the name Erasmus, it is a commom name here in Brazil. But I think it was very crazy he take this name for a character.

I know that wasnt a nice example, but I could summom many other KJA strange names. :P

most likely he's named after Desiderius Erasmus, who is a famous 14th century Philosopher and Theologian. I think KJA chose him simply because he linked "humanism" with "robot who like to think he's trying to be human. (But Is Not.)"

and no Kevin, Humanism is not simply "exploring what it means to be human"

Data could have kicked Erasmus' ass. And Lore was a better villian. Much Much better
