Synopsis now up at Amazon.com - slightly different than the one that was up at Amazon.co.uk...
Amazon.co.uk
It is 83 years after the last of the thinking machines were destroyed in the Battle of Corrin, after Faykan Butler took the name of Corrino and established himself as the first Emperor of a new imperium. The great war hero Vorian Atreides has turned his back on politics and Salusa Secundus, flying off to parts unknown; because he was given a life-extension treatment by Agamemnon, he ages very slowly. Abulurd Harkonnen, convicted of cowardice during the Battle of Corrin, was sent away in disgrace to live on the gloomy planet Lankiveil, and his descendants continue to blame Vor for the downfall of their fortunes. Raquella Berto-Anirul has formed the Bene Gesserit School on the jungle planet Rossak as the first Reverend Mother. The descendants of Aurelius Venport and Norma Cenva have built a powerful transportation company, the Venport Spacing Fleet, using mutated, spice-saturated Navigators who fly "spacefolder ships" (precursors of Heighliners). Gilbertus Albans, the ward of the hated Erasmus, has established his own school on the bucolic planet of Lampadas where he teaches humans to become Mentats. Even so, many decades after the defeat of the thinking machines, anti-technology fervor continues to sweep across the human-settled planets, with powerful fanatical groups imposing violent purges...

It is eighty-three years after the last of the thinking machines were destroyed in the Battle of Corrin, after Faykan Butler took the name of Corrino and established himself as the first Emperor of a new Imperium. Great changes are brewing that will shape and twist all of humankind.
The war hero Vorian Atreides has turned his back on politics and Salusa Secundus. The descendants of Abulurd Harkonnen Griffen and Valya have sworn vengeance against Vor, blaming him for the downfall of their fortunes. Raquella Berto-Anirul has formed the Bene Gesserit School on the jungle planet Rossak as the first Reverend Mother. The descendants of Aurelius Venport and Norma Cenva have built Venport Holdings, using mutated, spice-saturated Navigators who fly precursors of Heighliners. Gilbertus Albans, the ward of the hated Erasmus, is teaching humans to become Mentats…and hiding an unbelievable secret.
The Butlerian movement, rabidly opposed to all forms of “dangerous technology,” is led by Manford Torondo and his devoted Swordmaster, Anari Idaho. And it is this group, so many decades after the defeat of the thinking machines, which begins to sweep across the known universe in mobs, millions strong, destroying everything in its path.
Every one of these characters, and all of these groups, will become enmeshed in the contest between Reason and Faith. All of them will be forced to choose sides in the inevitable crusade that could destroy humankind forever…
Er - Manford Torondo??!!!

Manford Torondo
That's a Canadian porn star, isn't it?
(No, wait - I'm thinking of "Han Solo")

I love how they feel the need to connect EVERYTHING in the original series back to these early periods. That's really a mark of being a hack - they have an Idaho swordmaster? Give me a break, not only has being a swordmaster been in his family for TEN THOUSAND YEARS apparently, but of course his ancestor was someone of great importance...

So what intricate details of Dune have these guys left out? The life and death of Dr. Yueh's father's second cousin's wife?

Don't give them ideas, KJA reads this forum.

Griffen Harkonnen! Get it?!
That's one of the funniest damn paragraphs I've ever read. It's going to be tough to top that in the next contest.
Wait, I've got an idea. See you next year!

I think he ran off at the end of Legends with a copy of Erasmus or something, or am I remembering that wrong?

Hmmm, sounds familiar, but why didn't that get tied into Dune 7 somehow then? Or did it? Hell if I can remember half the garbage they've written!
So what's going to happen to this copy then... either they'll realize they have no idea what to do and will have it destroyed in some mindless situation, or it'll be something epicfail, like we find out that Erassmunch is secretly one of the characters from the original Dune, he just builds himself a fleshy body.
Now... which character, which character...

Probably Jessica, since he likes to cross-dress, and because she's part of the kinky sorority Sisterhood we're going to hear so much about.

Agreed.
Some fucking hack in The Battle of Corrin wrote:GILBERTUS ALBANS DISENGAGED the independent robot's memory core, the same small sphere he had saved when Omnius demanded the erasure of Erasmus. He wrapped it in a cloth and tied it with loving care. The little bundle fit neatly into his pocket, where no one would think to look for it. It was a priceless record of Erasmus's remarkable life, his mind...his soul.
But then, hasn't KJA said that Erasmus is one of
their (or was it just
his?) favorite characters?
He probably cums himself every other day or so just thinking about having thrust Erasmus back into the story. Again. And again. And again.
Fucker.

By the way, that's one of the things we've had on the predictions pages on HToD for months now:
The Mentats of Dune
Erasmus’ memory core will figure heavily in Gilbertus Albans’ creation of the Mentat School. (In fact, would anyone really be all that surprised if Gilbertus brings Erasmus back entirely, or even in some limited “talking head” condition? KJA has said he loves writing Erasmus, after all.) UPDATE: On January 9th, in response to this question from User RayRay “Is it mentioned in any of the books when or where Gilbertus restores Erasmus?” the day before, boardadmin Byron Merritt replied, “That will be explained in THE SISTERHOOD OF DUNE due out in 2012.” Now, that’s not conclusive, but it’s suggestive as hell. (Of course, one also has to take into account the fact that Byron Merritt always seems to be the last member of the HLP to know shit about what is going on.) —SC 10Jan2011

Yeah, you're right. I was just taking the opportunity to grumble about the no-ship in the House books again.

Right on. I'm not saying that won't happen by the way. Just not what they referred to. I could totally see no-ships being invented in this period.

Perhaps they should have finalized the cover before handing out promotional material at comic-con.

Yeah. The amazon forums are quite capable of taking the baby steps on there own. In fact it helps our argument that much more when the low reviews aren't even ours. We can certainly come in a couple weeks after and post our "professional" anti-nu-dune arguments.
Give it a few days with 4-5 gushy 5-star "I haven't even started it but look at the cover omg lesbian fremen" reviews.
When it falls off #17 on the Best seller list in the first week, and we haven't even begun our fight, who can they blame?
Space Obama?
