Hehe, as Freak often says "I exist only to serve"Rakis wrote:Finally...someone makes sense...Tleilax Master B wrote:No biggie. Leave it to the Tlelaxu to bring us back on the Path...
Oh yeah. That's it!orald wrote:I thought you existed only to convert all the powindah to the True Faith.
Notable here is the wording: *only* 19 Duncans lived out their lifespan (natural or extended), which means that this was a minority, and a significantly larger number of Duncans were killed off. I think 50 is insufficient, since that would put it at 31 fatalities versus 19 natural deaths, which is nowhere near the ratio needed to match the language used there, or in the reference to his many lives in Heretics:Tleilax Master B wrote: ↑27 Feb 2008 09:36 Moneo has seen their records and has seen enough of them dead. He knows that only nineteen Duncans died what people usually refer to as natural deaths.
All the others were killed. If we assume that Duncan, with the benefits of spice, lived to be at least 100 (probably more), that's 1900 years already accounted for, leaving another 1600 years of possible Duncan deaths. Surely they made it at least 50 years before flipping out? That would be about another 32--I'm going to ballpark that there were 50 Duncans total![]()
https://readonlinebookfree.com/1757/151 ... ronicles_5All of the Duncan Idahos, original and the serial gholas flowed into his mind. They were like bursting seedpods denying all other existence except themselves. He saw himself crushed beneath a great worm with a human face.
"Damn you, Leto!"
Crushed and crushed and crushed... time and again.
"Damn you! Damn you! Damn you!..."
He died under a Sardaukar sword. Pain exploded into a bright glare swallowed by darkness.
He died in a 'thopter crash. He died under the knife of a Fish Speaker assassin. He died and died and died.
And he lived.
At least. The thing is, some of the Duncans may not have lasted even 5 minutes with Leto, getting themselves killed almost immediately when he decided Leto was a monster. He might have been placing his order for the next one the same day the previous one arrived. For thousands of years.
That's a good point. I guess my estimate can be considered a lower bound, with potentially hundreds more deaths, depending on how many Duncans had a short fuse and quickly rebelled against a seeming tyrant (who was ultimately teaching humanity by bad example, but that's a subtle point).georgiedenbro wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024 13:30At least.
