naw, don't worry ...
I'm gonna guarantee you this movie
ain't never gonna get made. there, I said it:
Never.
they're gonna start kicking the movie-rights around next, sell it amongst themselves, do some Enron-accounting,
calling it "collateral", kicking up the price a few hundred thousand dollars everytime they swap it ... it will eventually
become the most expensive movie to have never been made, or even have an actual screenplay written for it ...
and the reason's simple: it just can't be done, and they know it - right now, it's a hot item because of the 3D fad
and what should be the potential ... but they also
all know,
all of them, all the producers and studio
execs and directors and stunt men and SX guys,
everybody knows it can't be done - whatever would finally
be produced will be horrible, even more confusing to non-fans than the Lynch84, the real Dune Fans are gonna pre-hate,
anyway .... and the McDuners will hate it because, no matter how simple & dumbed down it ends up, they aren't going
to understand anything past the opening credits ....
never get made.
never.
talk and talk and talk and
never
get
made.
never.

I'm betting the 4 parts of any DUNE movie that gets made will be, prologue, beginning, middle and end. End of story.

4 parts could be signing cast on for Dune 1 and 2, Messiah, and Children.
Not heard nuffin' official though.

You give 'em to much benefit SR. Hollywood is a place where movies get pitched with: "It's like DIE HARD in a skyscraper."

Here's that other-forum post I mentioned above:
On Thu Oct 07, 2010 at 12:29 am, HarryCanyon wrote:Paramount Pictures is to make a 4 part big screen movie out of Frank Herbert's brilliant Sci-fi fantasy masterpiece novel and the director of french action movies like District B13, Taken and others will direct.
Should be a be epic and improvement over that horrible 1984 David Lynch turkey and be as cool as the Sci-fi mini-series and it's sequel.
Note that I did get the date wrong: March was when he joined their forum.
But that just makes it all the odder.
(And still no response from the guy on Amazon.)

was it ever pointed out, in his intro thread, if there is one,
that Harry Canyon was the taxi driver in the first story of
the Evil Green Ball in
Heavy Metal ?

No joking, that was an actual pitch to a producer. The writer only knew Die Hard from the recent movie. You just can't fix stupid.

Four parts of
nothing is still nothing.
I'm with SR: this thing ain't ever getting made.
(At least not with the current level of idiocy in both Hollywood and HLP headquarters)

Weird that they're calling it a "four-part movie" rather than a movie series, trilogy, or whatever. That makes me think that either it's just a really long movie (with intermissions?) or it's just the first book split into four movies (like harry potter 7 is being split into two). Neither makes particular sense, though.
Maybe it's a four-hour movie?

God, that just reminded me: the LynchDune disaster had an intermission (or at least it did here in YahooVille). None of us knew what the hell to do; it was kind of comical.

Has there been any mention if they will include any of the BH/KJA crap in the new movie?

Hopefully the co-producer-ships gifted to The Hacks Twain are just titular, as many seem to think, and Morel and the rest at Paramount will ignore any input they try to provide.
But the fear that they may try to slip their version of the Butlerian Jihad into a quicky intro is something that will nag at the back of my mind until this current attempt is finally declared dead.
Come on, MASSIVE FAIL!

You thinking a Prequel intro like in the SF/Lynch SE?
I could REALLY see that happening.
Let me say this now, NOTHING could set me off like some McDune influence in any kind of way ending up this IF of a movie.
Great big gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts. How about a nice, cool drink, varmints? Scum! Slime! Menace to the golfing industry! You're a disgrace. You're varmints. You're one of the lowest members of the food chain and you'll probably be replaced by the rat. Well, I have been pushed. It's about time somebody teaches these varmints a little lesson about morality and about what it's like to be a decent, upstanding member of a society! Come to Carl, varmint. -- I guess we're playing for keeps now. I guess the kidding around is pretty much over. I guess it's just a matter of pumping about five thousand gallons of water down there to teach you a little bit of a lesson. Is that it? I think it is!

I'm glad to hear that there has been no mention of it. I was awoken in the middle of the night by the sudden recollection that Byron DeMerit said something to the effect of "...will be a movie that will make all Dune fans happy." [paraphrased]
It is one thing to think that he is referring to fans of the book, Dune, but there is something in the timbre of his typing that makes me think that when he says "ALL Dune fans happy", he is referring to the flock of prequlelites that he shepherds over there at the Dune bBS.

OK, now it's getting weird. The guy has yet to reply to me in the thread he started on Amazon, but I saw when I logged onto Facebook during lunch that he's posted on the deader of the two "Dune" groups there:
Jonathan Lindsey Long live the fighters! I grew with the Dune novels since i was 13 in the mid 90's and loved them as i always had an obsession with Sci-fi but however my introduction to Dune was the movie when i was a kid. But now i think the movie kind of stinks compared to the book, i'm glad there will be a new 4 part big screen movie epic in the LOTR vein.
Arrakeen Sand Chigger You posted about this on the Amazon customer forums the other day, right?
Where are you getting this "4 part" stuff?
