i have a large reference book of who's who in the world of SF art at home. Ill check to see if I can find out anything about him when I get home tonight.

Looks like he may have been the typographer, so if he is still around he would be the one.

The links I see when I Google his name are to letters to the editor that he wrote to the NYT.

I looked in Greenwood's A Biographical Dictionary of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (1988) and found nothing for him.

I did a google and I reckon "designer" refers to cover designer (as in layout etc) ... rather than font designer/typographer.

But.. that said, if he does still exist, he probably would know - same publisher, same series, same font - I wouldn't be suprised if he set the US covers of most of FH's books from that era.
