Does that include those who regularly attempt to undermine it (AKA speaking honestly and openly)?

Because Byrotard is probably the nastiest insult I've heard in a while. Just the connotation is bad: Baaaaaiirooooowwwttaaaaarrrrrdduuuuhhh...

I've just been inspired :)

Can someone grab me a screen shot of that pretard's post from Dumbnovels. If it's not at the top of a page, I'll also need a "top page" screen shot as well, so I can edit them together so they people who look at the picture can tell it's Dumbnovels :)

Please and thank you.

it appears to be taken, but searching for preqtard yields no results anywhere on the interweb.... so i'm in favour of that term instead as it does emphasize the source of the stupidity more strongly and is unique.
Can you update the definition?

I'd like to count myself fairly well versed in online lingo and I've never seen anyone use "pretard". I don't care if it's taken but rarely used; we are now making it our own.

But feel free to use Preque-tard or Ander-tard or your own creation :)

Pretard
a person who enjoys the hackery spewed out by Kevin J Anderson (The Hack) and Brian Herbert (the Other Guy).

Make sure to post a link if it makes it, cause I'm going to vote "thumbs up" from both my home computer and work. :)

I'm voting for 'ultra-tard'. Possibly in caps:

ULTRA-TARD

It is exactly like a Dune fan, except it was not created through a natural process of enjoying and considering great science fiction, but through absorption of a heinous crime against nature and literacy, which included a lot of laser-space-battles.

"Ultratard" is a bit non-specific (I love this current conversation, lol).

I suppose one could argue the same for "pretard", but pretard does apply more directly to Dune because of the prequels (and especially since everyone here uses the rather pejorative label "preek").

A Thing Of Eternity wrote:In the interest of keeping this simple, lets just look at three things in Sandworms which contradict Frank Herbert, or contradict other books by KJA and BH, or just plain contradict this very same book. These are the first three that come to my mind, and I don't want to imply that they arel the most important. I want to see what other readers have used to explain these differences to themselves.

1.The authors state that all of humanity is contained in one galaxy, and could be easily conquered by lightspeed ships, wheras FH clearly and repeatedly said that the scattering was multigalactic.

2. Ships that the authors say travel at the speed of light then spend the rest of the novel travelling faster than that speed. It's a contradiction within just this one book, and this also contradicts their own statements in the FAQ and the entire Legends series.

3. The super-worm thing that drives me nuts (seven forty meter sandworms combine to become the biggest sandworm ever, though in Dune the one that Paul called was three kilometers long)

I'm not trying to be rude or anger anyone, I want to give people a chance to defend this book that they keep saying is a strong novel, and a valuable addition to the Duniverse. How can it be either when so much of
it contradicts itself and the work of Frank Herbert?
1. BH/KA wrote that? who says it in the book? maybe it was meant as an insult to the scattering? questions within questions.

2. thats a bummer. quotes and references?

3. it might be said that in the early stages of sandtrout creating deserts out of planets there is a higher concentration of them to gather and make larger sandworms. and i suppose the pearl of leto in those worms knew to combine themselves.
you're talking to a wall.

A Thing of Eternity left us during the Jihad, along with many others. there are very few people left on this board willing to even bother arguing (or debating, if you prefer) about BH & KJA's alternate Duniverse, even if they have a negative view of them.

Ah...Grinch reference? Let's stick to The Graeble for the moment, shall we?

*i thought only refined spice was blue? two sets of colors for spice! the audience wouldnt know what was going on!

oh, okay. I take it from all the bolded parts of the post about things
I don't understand at all and characters I don't know that this is a pretard.
Well, under the New Guidelines of Civilised Discussion & Tolerance, we
hafta play nice. Or you hafta play nice, I pretty much ignore the
discussion of how fucked up the new books are - I take ya'lls word on
that, I don't need to hear the nasty details ....

I don't know, Lundse is right about one thing - I've seen more than a
handful of PMs from Simon Over There stating that the OH cannot be
reasoned with concerning the new books - and he's right, but so what ?

it's like reasoning with Hitler, fuck the talk, drop the bombs.

He really said that? That's disappointing. I actually think we've had some reasoned arguments, but just concluded that everything we hate about the books is stuff that doesn't bother him.
