If you're going to Germany go to Denmark, too. Short train ride.

Go to Christiana (in Copenhagen) and go to Cafe Nemoland and get a Tuborg beer http://www.tuborg.com/home.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . There's an open faced sandwich (Smørrebrød http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_sandwich" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) shop next door, I recommend the open faced cheeseburger with cucumbers. You can also get hashish on the street leading too it.

One of the hash bars:

In Germany, try Julius Echter Hefe-Weissbier. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/176/616" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've had Tuborg, not bad beer by any means, but I lean towards amber/red/brown/dark ales.

Lots of Belgian beers use chocolate in the recipie. One of my favorites is Coresndonk.

Surprisingly good, but also my first time to try with cocoa.
Nagoya miso beer was good :D

My local grocer seems to be the last store in the kanto region to have a case left.
Needless to say, I stocked up on a dozen cans if you want to try.
:D

MMMMMMM!!!

Well, thanks for the offer, but I think I'd rather put on a fundoshi, smear myself with miso, stick some waribashi in my ears and go sing Kimi ga yo in front of Iwaki Station, shooting eda-mame out of my nose at passers-by.

I'm working on a recipe for a chocolate and coffee stout right now actually.

I had something like that a few months back - it had a weird novelty funny taste to begin with (like most flavoured beers) but over the pint it settled down into just a really nice smooth tasty dark beer.

Can't for the life of me remember what it was called though :( Will ask if we end up in that pub tonight.

Oh yeah....

BEER TIME! :)

Okay my friends, I have a question that might seem strange to y'all coming from me; What would you recommend as a good 'sipping' beer?

As opposed to a funneling beer? :?

Do you want it to taste good or do you want to get drunk, what's your motivation?

Taste good. besides, if I wanted to get drunk I wouldn't be sipping it...would I?

Even when I was in my youth I never really chugged a beer, I ususally just sipped them. One beer could last me up to an hour.

My oldest son and I were talking yesterday and somehow got on the subject of drinking. He perfers mixed drinks and I told him I never really tasted that many that I cared for (way back when) that I had usually just stuck with beers. Then the discussion went what would be a good beer just for sipping. I said I should ask you guys because we use to have a whole thread dedicated to beer.

Try Bud Lite Golden Wheat.

Say what y'all want about Budweiser but I like the Golden Wheat.

For sipping beers I like a good medium coloured beer with a decent amount of hops (bitterness). I'd recommend just going to the store and grabbing something you've never heard of before in your price range, and in the alcohol % range you want (I love a good 4% beer, you can drink them all day and stay sober). You might want to start with lighter colours and work your way up until you find a good balance.

If you want a "regular" style beer, I highly recommend Asahi.

Anything from a small craft brewery is going to DESTROY what the big breweries spew out and call beer (seriously, I drink that stuff myself sometimes, but it is to beer what KJABH is to Dune).

People tend to think they only like light coloured beers because all they've tried for darker is stouts - there's a whole spectrum inbetween that truly represents what beer can be all about.

Beefy boys with overactive metabolisms can drink them all day and stay sober, you mean. ;)

Asahi's good, but I prefer Kirin or Ebisu. ;)

(You got a good place nearby where you can get imports? There's one back home, and we're in the boonies!)

Well, we are surrounded by Military bases. I'm sure there might be one or two with-in driving distance.

I would assume there would be places to cater to our lads (and lasses) who have grown use to some of the imports.

Thanks Chig, I was trying to remember the one that starts with a K, I agree that one is better. Not sure if I've had the other.

I used to drink a ton of Orion. Weve got great Japanese markets here in Sacto.

Japanese beer is always just everywhere here, you can get it in any liquor store no problem. Some Chinese too usually, and a few others.

For sipping, I like a good wheat beer with either a wedge of lemon or orange. Ayinger and Franziskaner are two very good ones. Shiner does a decent Heifeweisen.
