Further proof that the HLP just doesn't give a shit:

I was very confused looking at the cover when I bought the thing, being anal that I am about the book being in PERFECT condition. When at home I took a break and set the book down. I turned it upside down and said OH! it's supposed to be a dune! How could they make that HUGE of a mistake with mass market production? But, being as how fast they are pumping these soft/hard cover books out I would not rule a F up out completely.
I had a look and he's got a point:

I guess this counts as an FH inconsistency then? :P

An inconsistency? Bah! It's clearly a sandworm hiding in the sand

So it's one of two things:

1. Either the HLP approved that cover, which means they're even more useless than previously thought;

or

2. The HLP has lost control of the editorial process, no one bothers consulting with them, and other people are just approving stuff on their behalf. Which means ... you guessed it ... they're even more useless than previously thought.

The place is an intellectual wasteland full of people who know incredibly little about Dune. What's the attraction?
See it as an empirical study to check just that: is DN really an intellectual wasteland - lets try to get a lucid response to a question regarding Dune and see if it might be more than that.

After a couple of months of trying:
We can tentatively conclude that this place is indeed an intellectual wasteland, three (3) users seem to try to respond, being: Fantomas (who rarely sticks to any point at all), Arnoldo (who has no real knowledge of what he is defending or the original novels, and has delusions of knowing argumentation theory) and Byron (who either repeats his points in the face of criticism or simply ignores said critique).

As someone put it: nothing to see here - but a least I tried and they had their chance and that, as opposed to their actual responses, speaks friggin VOLUMES!

I actually felt sorry for you, brother. I kept reading your posts, and their
responses and literally didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Good job
in keeping after it for so long, and know that you provided all the examples
anyone could ever want of What's Wrong With Them Over There.

Also, Kudos for keeping civil and not getting yourself banned.
Altho, if you really wanted to, I'm sure a well-worded email to Meritt
would get you back in. If you still feel the need to bang your head
against that wall.

He Freakbanned me twice, and I sent him snide emails - he let me back
in twice. I finally got too drunk one night and basically nailed a post on
his door saying I'M THE FUCKING SANDRIDER YOU STUPID FUCK.

along - and he had his own plan. Dork.)(Hi Merrit. You're a Dork.)

PM the shit and ask him how long it took him to figure out Talos was me.

I wonder if he figured it out for himself or if someone had to tell him? 8)

I am curious about why he banned me out of the blue like that. I hadn't posted anything for a few days. In fact, I was holding back on purpose.

No loss, tho. TA says howdy, btw. :P

Just posted on DN under the topic: Now it all makes sense.
I wrote:I notice that kja is now claiming that all narrative text in Dune is suspect to the manipulation of Irulan or the B.G. That has given him free reign to write anything contradictory because now it was all just Irulan manipulating the future. To what end I wonder.

All OH arguments have now been silenced. Everything we knew about Dune was wrong and subject to change by the "real" story.

Yep.

This will be the final wedge between the two factions of the fanbase, because there will no longer be any common ground after this. You can't argue fact from the texts when the other side regards everything (except the latest crap...or including it as well?) as fiction.

Oh well.

Off to spread the good news far and wide. ;)

Bit of pure FH logic there - control the givens, win the argument.

Just thinking about it:

It can't be about Dune anymore - it has to be about the authors.

That part of it is over, yes.

Discussions of plot and theme are no longer possible. The HLP has not only sold out, they've handed over the goddamn keys to Kevin Fucknuts Anderson, who has decided that Frank Herbert's work really isn't that, you know, important.

Now, trying to raise a point with KJA or one of his mouth-breathing Lowest Common Denominator disciples like Simon will just result in the asshole in question saying something like, "that was all made up" ... or "that's now how it really happened." Or, worst of all, "we're addressing that in the next book."

It's pretty easy to "win" any argument when you get the only voice and get to make up whatever rules you want. Discussing anything Dune-related with a preek is now officially the biggest waste of time in human history (other than reading anything by KJA and that useless coward he "writes with," of course).

Fuck all of them. Starting with KJA, extending to that pathetic piece of shit with the Herbert name, going on to Byron Merritt, the spineless coward of all-time, and ending with all the preek douchebags who can only handle their McLiterature in 6th-grad-level dosages. Fuck them all ... and you know why?

Because it will NEVER be canon, you pathetic losers.

Nice one, Dukester. That's the way I see it. Any discussion about Dune that includes any elements from the noDune books should immediately be shut down with "Huh? Oh, are you talking about the KJA/BH books? They're not canon."

Every time.

Great. That's more than fine with me. I've agreed with those of you who have argued that Kevin's
books cloud the discussion of Frank's books, because those elements leak in. I've been confused
by some of the discussions I've read, because you've been arguing about things in Kevin's books,
and I haven't read Kevin's books. So I've been tainted by association - the whole thread on Paul's
Memory Over There is still fucking stuck in my head. And Chig's description of Leto and Jessica
getting it on the jungles of Caladan will stay with me forever. Oh wait. That's not been written yet,
right ? Or has it ?

Anyway, I've got a solution for all this. Stop reading the bullshit. Just stop. If you're reading Paul of
Dune right now, stop it. Just throw it away. And when Jessica of Dune comes out, don't read it.
And for the love of god, don't reread any of Kevins' books. Just keep reading the Four over
and over and over until your mind is cleansed, and you can keep the story straight.

I understand Freak wanted this forum to be a place of fans of both. Perhaps that should be re-thought.
There is a forum for "Fans of Kevin's Books" here - I vote to limit all discussion and even mention of
them to that place. They should be ignored, entirely.

I will, however, of course support the continued ridicule and personal attacks on Kevin, Brian, and my
not so BFF Byron in all threads at all times. In fact, I would encourage it.

Duke's mentioned needing an "ignore" button. I second it.
(You can push my now.)

Bullshit. Just remind him of Waterdebt, a guy who was arguing with the "OHers" and who claimed never to have read Dune. Byron was defending him in a PM exchange with me over one of my posts which had been deleted for no good reason, and I felt so sorry for Byron that I pointed out the fact that Waterdebt was that rancid old cunt Scummypuke in disguise. Byron didn't even had the good manners to thank me.
