I wasn't calling you specifically a hater, but those that are towards the Dragon Ball series. It's largely considered a modern animation classic, with a grand scope. (It was based off Journey to the West, after all). It definitely hasn't aged that way, and wasn't much to begin with, but with the new cut, it's taken down to its purest: an adaptation of the original novel.

There are people who hate Dragon Ball? :shock:

That's just ... stupid.

(Granted, the movie with that Young Fat guy was total shit. But what can you expect from Woolyhod?)

I had no idea it was based off Journey to the West. In that case, I may give it a real shot.

Well, Dragon Ball is, but the sequel series Z went towards action rather than fantasy. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're interested in fights with aliens that take up an entire season.

I went to see Journey To The West last year, it was brilliant.

That was what annoyed me a little when I had a short chance to watch some DragonBall (it was the Z series I seen as I recall, from somewhere in the middle).

e.g. We have 3 minutes to do X to save Y!

Don't worry, we have six episodes to do it in!

But apart from that I enjoyed it.

The reason for that is that shows don't have re-runs in Japan, so not airing even once is tantamount to being canceled. Since They're adapting the show from a source that's still ongoing, they decided to stretch things out and insert filler so they wouldn't surpass the source-material.

The Kai re-cut they've just begun airing works to slim down the original 291 episodes to about 100, by cutting out all the filler to streamline it to be more faithful with the manga, as well as re-mastering the coloring, replacing damaged frames, and re-recording all the original voice actors' lines. It should be a more enjoyable watch.

:P

How exactly did you mean that? Qualification is everything. ;)

Well, I'm not the one watching "Japanese" TV, but I would assume that, as I read, most shows (or particularly anime) are broadcast on a first run-basis only, with no new episodes being akin to cancellation, as said, but reruns will occur at some point if there's enough popularity. But they don't run the same episode of a fledgling show more than once unless proven worth airtime.

But you're the one there, so you should know better.

mo betta, mah brotha main ....

the portrait of the Baron with the globe of Arrakis is by Mark Zug

as is :

and, as someone pointed out above :
http://dunepedia.wetpaint.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://dunepedia.wetpaint.com/page/Kaldo+Radij" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
His mysterious identity leads many to speculate whether Kaldo Radij is a real individual or a code name for a secret cabal.

Biographical Information
Kaldo Radij was a mysterious member of the organisation known only as the Dune Smugglers. Whether or not he was a smuggler himself is unknown, as he managed to remain so secretive that he was constantly shrouded in mystery. Even the usage of his name was debated.

Out of-Universe Information
Kaldo Radij appears only in the Dune trading card game, on a trading card illustrated by Mark Zug, and is therefore considered to be unquestionably non-canon. He is one of many inprovised characters that the game developers created, presumably to create more cards for the game. Mark Zug himself wrote: "The game developers had to create characters who weren't necessarily part of Frank Herbert's cast..."

That Dune CCG is worth looking at just for the art alone. It really was a nice product, put out by people who seemed to respect the quality of the original works. It also had the added advantage of not being sullied by the fat, greasy pig-fingers of either TheKeith or Whatsisname.

The problem is that about 300 people bought it, 100 played it, and maybe 20 understood it. As a game, it's got some good ideas ... there's just too many of them.

Nice looking book. Not the original boards or sleve, but nice nonetheless. It's remaindered too, which is probably one of the reasons its been modified. But personally, I still think that $5K is too much for any book. Its suckers who pay that much that keep prices up for the rest of us.

I would have to be insanely rich and insanely mad to pay five thousand dollars for a book. But then again, it is Frank. :pouts in indecision:

If I had the money to blow I'd buy a SIGNED first edition in fine condition for $5,000.

It may not be worth that on the market but it would be worth it to me.

What kind of dumbass makes new cover art for DUNE and only puts one moon on it.
