That's a real good point. In my rush to hate the little maggot,Duke wrote:And let's be honest: the whole absurd "you can never mention the authors rule" is pretty much a direct result of Byron getting sick of defending his uncle. It's not Frank Herbert who was being insulted now, was it?

Then LEAVE and stop spoiling the enjoyment of people who visit this particulare site.
It's arrogant of you to assume you have the right to defend the Legacy of Frank Herbert. Brian is his family, and this is the Official site.
Who do you think YOU are to be actively discouraging anyone who comes here from enjoying ALL of the works surrounding Dune?
You want to whine and complain? Then do it somewhere else.
I swear, I wish they would ban every damn one of you so that fans of all the works did not have to have their experience soiled by your hostility.
This is the official, family run, author supported site, and you should have no right to demonize the works or the authors.
Stop trying to ruin everything and just go spew your garbage somewhere else. You should have no right to do it here, of all places.
note the bolded phrase above. Who is this"other guy". You have me intrigued. Did "they" know FH personally?SandRider wrote:That guy I know that knows the other guy said he (the last guy) sent a PM back to Bryon

This is true. And it did not take long to perceive the nature of the new books. Two or three paragraphs of House Atredies was enough to know that this was in no way a continuation of my friend's life work, that it was an exploitation of his name and the scribblings of a Star Wars comic book ghost writer.

nuduneman wrote:Twice no. "Arnoldo", please explain to me how prescience could "tend" to create the future. Prescience means "knowledge of things before they exist or happen; foreknowledge; foresight". The premise of Paul's Vision is that there are concrete "possible" futures; his Vision allows him to choose the path to the future he desires. In a normal conversation, that clarification would end the point of discussion. I feel certain, however, that here it will not.Nekhrun wrote:No. Paul can see them all (or almost all) and choose which path to take.arnoldo wrote:It is a bit of a paradox whether Paul’s prescience allows him to “see” the future or if prescience tends to create the future, isn’t it?Nekhrun wrote:Because he specifically states later that he did not see a son in the vision of the twin birth. When the possibilities were open to him earlier he may even have seen a son for all we know. Remember that when you walk through, time becomes a narrow door. As far as he knew, Leto II just wasn't there, until he was.boardadmin wrote:How do you know that? Just wondering...Nekhrun wrote:There is something else, and I don't remember where it came up but I think Byron or someone was talking about Paul not knowing about the first Leto son dying. I also think it's likely that he knew that the son would be killed and was willing to make the sacrifice.

Bearded Kirklander wrote:I was wondering if there is a way to do a general "Mark All Forums Read" on this site, and if so, could someone please tell me how?
All I can find is "Mark Tpics Read", which means going down each area, I think, instead of an all-in-one.
Thanks

nuduneman wrote:Oh, I'm sorry, Kevin !! I just re-read your post more carefully.
(Like you should do with those old, stale Dune books what-his-name wrote)
You're asking if there is a way to "Hack all Forums Read" ...
Ok, first off, you're going to have to actually READ all the forums.
Oh, damnit, that's right ! You can't read can you, Kevvie ?
Well, that's OK, nothing to be ashamed of, really.
OK, just get someone to read them to you, like the way they read
the transcripts of the "books" you "write" when you're out the woods
and just talking into that voice-words-saving-thing you have.
Then, while someone, maybe Byron, well no, but whoever you can
find that can read is reading the forums to you, you think about butterflys
and zebras, and moonbeams and fairy tales, and when they're done
reading to you, you just hack them up the way you did all that Star
Wars stuff.
You remember Stars Wars, right, Kevvie ? Oh, now, yes you
do ! You know you do ! A long, long time ago ....? That's right
Kevvie, zoom-zoom-zoom ! Kferslash ! Zing !
Hey, I read on the internet that the wierding modules in the new
movie were going to be light sabers ! Won't that be fun !!
I am... But what sucks is that so far it's just Byron and I discussing it. Anyone who's not banned from DN wanna join in and add their input?Rakis wrote:Keep it up, Drunken !

+++++
FWIW, DD, you're hitting all the high points and Byron is coming off as an addled clown who will defend his family even in the face of overwhelming evidence that they are clueless.
Forget just the ending: I can't think of a single point in all of Dune where I would describe Paul as "optimistic." He begins the book apprehensive about the move to Arrakis, his life is thrown into complete turmoil by the Harkonnen invasion, and he ends the book with a heavy heart, knowing that he has set a galactic bonfire into motion.
"Optimistic"? Where? It's like The Hiker and His Sidekick haven't even read Dune. And Byron continues to make a fool out of himself by defending their idiocy.

Was it something I said, Byron?

When I first stumbled into this mess, I registered "Sandrider" Over There,
and then from looking at those posts, found the link to Jacurutu, and
registered "Sandrider" over here and started rambling.
After the first day my IP was blocked Over There. Blocking a user who
had never set foot on his board. What'd you call him, Duke.
Oh yeah, pussy.
