I like the two sandy looking ones in the upper-right and lower-left.

lol@bersion...

I think I like the lower right one, personally. It's quite golden. Like the path.

Your Q reminds me of the Q in Queens of the Stone Age, which is actually a sperm swimming toward an egg.

So now you're doing the lower-case, right? :P

From Penguin:
Dear James,
Thank you for your inquiry about the DUNE series.

We do not have this information readily available as some of the data that we would need to reference in order to respond accurately is not available to us in our database.

However, we will pass your question off to our Editorial staff to see if perhaps there’s an alternate means for obtaining this information. Because of the volume of mail received, we cannot guarantee that you will receive a personal response; however, we will see that your question is sent along for review.

We regret that we were not able to respond directly with an answer, and we thank you for taking the time to contact us.

I like the bottom right one with the light.

Could you do one with llight shining down on the words, with it layering off into blackness?

Just a suggestion.

what was your inquiry?
I run a Frank Herbert fan forum online and I would like to know what font you used on the old Dune series and Dune Encyclopedia paperbacks. If you could give me the name of the font I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,
James Kendrick

huh. Merritt's board provides some (potentially) useful information:
Over There >> Characters of Dune >> fremen alphabet // yesterday, today

I've been hoping there's an easy way to export every single character as a separate file and import it into my rubbish 90s font creator.

When I have a spare evening with nothing better to do I'll knuckle down. :)

I imagine Penguin never had a digital file of the original fonts and has long since trashed the plates used for their prints runs.

Hurry up and finish so we can use the fonts for an upcoming literary project

Yeah, but it's possible that font had a name and was recreated digiatally somewhere.

If it existed before it was used for the Dune books it might...

DE says "designed by Jeremiah B. Lighter" but this was before Berkley Books merged with Penguin in 1996. If he was still around he may know.

It's funny how we obsess over such a little thing that's actually quite extraneous to Dune itself.

But I feel the same way, I'm super pumped to make use of this font. I'm in design, so it might come in handy.
