I wore a long sleeve t-shirt today but I'll probably regret it this afternoon.

Re: How hot are you?
Interesting stat. here: we've just had a day or two with highs of 32C (almost 90F) and a few more predicted to come.
The record high for this month in Joburg, i have just learnt, was 31.7C.
So it looks like shaping up to be a hot summer.
On a positive note, we've just had our first rains. Hoo bloody ray.(They're late as all hell)

Oh I know, but this is a forum full of Americans so there's a pretty decent chance that some of our members think us Canadians live in igloos... had to set that straight for their sake.Omphalos wrote:That was a joke, you know.A Thing of Eternity wrote:It actually gets bloody hot up here, not crazy like you guys get, but we do get up into the 90s and sometimes up near 100 in your strange measurement system.Omphalos wrote:Ha! I'm from Maine, so I'll assume that "Talking to Americans" consists of a few tips on how to be very, very nice to the damn yankees so we don't up and kick your asses in a re-run of the Aroostook War.

Kick our asses? What war was that? I'm just kidding, you guys could obviously crush us like bugs, if the rest of the free world didn't intervene on our behalf.

"Talking to Americans" was a segment in a TV show called "This hour has 22 Minutes" where a guy called Rick Mercer travelled down into the US and asked Americans on their opinions of global issues, mostly stuff about Canada though. He got university professors talking about our National Igloo, lots of people saying Canada was to the south of the USA and Mexico to the north, people saying things about our "president" John Poutine, man it went on and on for years. It was pretty much the funniest thing ever.
Every now and then someone (usually a child of the people actually being interviewed) would catch Rick and say something like "hey, Canada doesn't have states, it has provinces" or maybe would realize there's no seal hunt in Manitoba, or that our parliment building is not in fact an igloo.

There's an entire hotel carved out of ice somewhere, Scandanavia maybe?
I guess they don't need a fire alarm or supression system, huh?

Yeah, but they have to completely rebuild that thing every year, wouldn't work for a government building... or wait, they don't work all summer anyways...

I heard a rumor that the CT Tower was made of compressed maple leaves.
Or should I say "leafs?" True?

Re: How hot are you?
It's "16 degrees below normal" here in Atlanta. I actually heard that on the radio on my way to work.

It was 73 degrees on Thanksgiving day and that climatologists had predicted a mild fall and winter.

At 8 a.m., Atlanta's official temperatures at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport stood at 14 degrees, breaking by 1 degree a record for Dec. 14 that had stood for 93 years, since 1917.

Re: How hot are you?
It's so tough for me to feel sorry for you guys, even when you're having terrible cold weather - because your numbers make it look so much better than it is! 50?! That's like a super super hot day in Arizona... or my microwave! 30?! I can't even stand to go outside, too hot! Anything above 15 is nice and warm - talk to me about -20 or -30!
Of course, I can do the conversions... but it just doesn't have the same impact as talking about temps surrounding a 0 degree point that marks when water freezes.

That was 50F, which is 10C. Earlier this week it was 16F or about -9C, -18C with the windchill.
