Well, fuck. You two louts just knocked us out of the running for Hypatia's
Most Nicest Dune Sietch Award for yet another year.
Racked up another two SWS Twits overnight, for a current total of nine. Got all five "Superstars" now, too. They're not all as active as TheKJA, though.
Will be keeping an eye on the blogs for a few days, too.
(I don't know, I always liked Claudia Christian on Babylon 5. Never really thought about whether she was a good actress or not. I mean, opposite Bruce Boxershorts [or whatever], who wouldn't look good?!)

Every time it rains and leaks into The Castle's basement, right?
I wonder why he doesn't make her crawl out onto the roof and fix the leak?
...
Oh. D'uh!

Because if she fell and hurt herself he'd have to bathe her again.

Hmm, I have visions of people in the zoo washing down the elephants with a bucket of water and a yardbrush.

Got a little information from an actual attendee, at last:
I'm not sure on the number of attendees; if you need a good estimate, you may want to ask the organizers . We did fill up a good-sized auditorium. It was an "open" seminar in the sense that anyone could sign up -- no auditions, writing samples etc required.
Well, we've been asking The Numbers Guy for that information all week, with no results, so that's a bit of wasted advice.
They filled up a good-sized auditorium. Hmmm.
If that's so, why aren't they bragging about how many people showed up? With all the early bird/last minute/bring a friend/bring your mother & get one free/bring a roast beef for Jabecca! specials, there's no way anyone could figure up more than a very rough estimate of how much the hucksters shucked the rubes for.
So ... what are they hiding?

Yeah, no one will even estimate the attendance? Just take a round guess?
Something is rotten in Denmark, my dear Horatio, and it's not Lotek's socks.
Methinks there's some actual embarrassment at the (lack of) attendance. Also ... no pix. Every electronic device in the world takes photos now and we get ... no pix?

Well, I think I kinda flubbed the question, phrasing it something like "How many people attended, exactly?" And being not exactly stupid (other than the whole attending this sucker-suck thing, of course), they wormed out of giving an estimate.
My bad.
I don't think we're going to get any answers out of anyone who attended. After all, they were all there BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO BE. They
wanted to hear what KJA & company had to say badly enough to pay anywhere from $500 to whatever to do so.
We shoulda sent in a spy!

The Boy Wonder (Eternal) who I was asking about the seminar attendance finally wised up:
If you're trying to say something critical, best to say it outright. Innuendo isn't very helpful. (In fact, on second thought, best to say it elsewhere).
To his credit, he hasn't censored my comments. Yet.
For some perspective, this guy self-identifies as "a recent Writers of the Future winner". That's probably why he was thinking of the seminar as "open" in the sense of having no submission-of-work requirement. He no doubt saw it as a good thing; I see it this way:
1. No requirement for a submission of work means that anyone with the money could have gotten in.
2. No work submitted means that the seminar holders ("Hacks 'R' Us 5!") don't need to waste
any time beforehand reading a lot of shit, choosing the least stinky, and notifying the "lucky" ones they can come.
The only attendee QC that I saw was KJA's mentioning that "only serious writers need apply" when he first started advertising the thing.
Next year, they should play it this way: "Due to the IMMENSE POPULARITY of last year's seminar, we've had to implement a submission requirement for this year's! Please send us a brief sample of your work blah blah blah...." They receive the samples by email and then just trash them, send everyone the same reply: "Due to the IMMENSE TALENT displayed in the sample you sent us, we have unanimously decided to approve your attendance at this years SUPERSTARS WRITING SEMINAR! Please send us your check or pay online at blah blah blah...." The rubes will read that and just cream themselves. Again.
List of self-declared attendees now up to
12.

Have you noticed how it makes him appear like highlighted text?

I think this is a reasonable insight on how his mind works. He picks the ugliest jacket he can find; makes certain that it is light colored because he knows that many depressed authors tend to wear black and there you have it.
It's like one of those Sesame Street bits...that gives me an idea...
