Sure, but however effective this was, it wouldn't have the same effect as a major breakthrough like countering the Holtzman Effect. I agree, and I think the plan of Leto II was only minimize the damage on the system for the forthcoming of the nullifying-shield technology. I think he knows he could never disappear with the shield only proscribing it.
Not a bad theory, I never thought about that.
I never really understood why Leto implemented the shield ban. I kind of assumed it was along the same lines as restricting travel - just a way of keeping people under control, but I never really saw a reason why he chose that in particular. Leto forseeing the shields becoming obsolete could make sense though, and seeing a need to soften the impact of such a drastic change.
The wisdom of the God Emperor never ceases to amaze...

I agree. I borrowed "Paul of Dune" from a friend and I've got to the first Young Paul part. I just have no interest in reading about past events in a book that is supposed to take place between Dune and DM.

Big PoD paperbacks are down to £5.99 on Amazon.co.uk (RRP £12.99)... They must be selling so many copies they've dropped the price again.

I'm not in charge of promotions. That is handled by the brilliance that is middle management. They also handle ordering and buying. I'm waiting for them to notice how many copies of 'of Dune' have been relegated to Bargain Book "lets get rid of inventory before tax day' status.
I'll have to look again at the sales plans, but i'm pretty sure we haven't received a KJA original Hardback since...2006. Not surprising since 90% of his 'books' are in someone else's playground.
were all of the 7 $uns books released in hardback? I don't recall seeing a hardback version of them since the 3rd or 4th book.

This last one ... Assholes of Seven Suns or whatever ... was definitely released in hardcover. I've seen it at both my nearest B&N and Borders, attracting a fine layer of dust in each case.

Not one single book store I have visited the last few weeks has Pile of Dung in any sort of promotional stand. At the American Book Centre it didn't even make it into the "new release" section but ended up straight away with the other dung. Perhaps I can ask them how many they actually sell. I am not sure they are allowed to tell me but the sales people should have a decent idea how well a book sells.

It was shipped to us in boxes of 8. If they have a multiple of that there is a good chance they haven't sold any. That's the US version though so it might be different in Europe.

I've seen
PoD copies (at most, three or four) in every bookstore I've been in since it came out, but have seen no displays.
Last year I chatted up the people in the Walden Books in the local mall and a Borders in another and asked how Sadworms was selling. They've been too busy every time I've been by so far this year to bother them, but I should run by WB again before heading back to Nippon....

I don't even want to think about the sites I wallowed through trying to find that pic...the perfect ass to fit the original curve.
In retrospect, maybe I should have asked a few people here for help.
(Speaking of which, anyone know where I can find a pic of a saggy, cellulite-dimpled old man's buttcheek? Side view, like the one in the above pic. I've searched with every combination of keywords I can think of.
If all else fails, I'll take a picture of my own.

I can't bring myself to continue. There is nothing there keeping me interested, nothing forcing me to see it to the end. What I've already read was a chore at best. I'm probably gonna toss it tomorrow.

I looked in a local bookstore today and there was no Paul of Dune in the "H" area of the fiction section.
BUT
There was a copy under "A", next to KJA's non-"Dune" books .
Scary? I thought the Herbert name was critical for sales. Or do people recognise that KJA is the writer?

At the local Barnes and Noble and Borders the KJA/BH books are lum[ed together with the FH books.

Look at it this way, at least their not next to Frank Herbert's books. That's a good thing.
That's a good way of looking at it. Unfortunately the House prequels were in the "H" section. That made it more confusing for me

Maybe we should start a campaign, calling bookstores, getting them to put them on the shelves under A.
Wouldn't that be the logical thing to do with co-authors? List it under the author who's name comes first in the alphabet?

I've always seen it under H, which is pretty depressing, since it puts all of the unwanted/unnecessary drivel right next to FH's original series. At least around here, the theory is clearly "Brian Herbert's name is listed first."
(Which, of course, is no accident. Just like the huge, all-caps "DUNE" on every cover, the HLP is aware of a few tricks to help them cash fatter checks.)
