very astute & very correct, Trang. One of the problems with modern campaigns - candidates promise the Moon, and everyone knows that not only will most of it be unattainable, current events will derail and alter any platform. Ask GWB. So we've started to hit harder on the character issues, honesty, integrity, the trust factor, and past experiance, and listen less to campaign promises.
Nekhrun wrote:SandRider wrote:What's the story on the Independent, Barkley ?
Who's he pulling votes from ?
It's now only 462 votes with an automatic recount.
Barkley was the guy appointed by Jesse Ventura after Wellstone's plane crashed. He served for a couple months before Coleman took over. The paper here is reporting that he's pulled more votes away from Franken than from Coleman though pre-election poles were saying the opposite. I'm holding out a little hope considering some voter irregularities in Minneapolis. This thing is weeks away from being done.
Thanks for the heads-up, quicker than I could get around to googling it. I remember well Paul Wellstone's death, but didn't ever know what had become of the seat. Franken's a real pain in the ass. Sure hope he wins.

Just a side note for those worried that Obama is going to spend the US further into the recession it's allready headed for - I was watching something about a week ago on the news where some political experts anaylized both Obama and McCain's plans/promises, and Obama was actually the lower spender. Estimates were saying that if Obama got elected the USA would be expected to go another 3 trillion in debt in the next 4 years, and if McCain got elected it was extimated at 4.5 trillion further into debt (rough numbers from memory, sorry, I can't remember what channel it was on so hunting for quotes would be hopeless). I've heard similar from a few other sources too.
Obviously I'm no expert, but from everything I've heard Obama is (in theory at least) the more finacially responsible.
I agree there's no way he'll live up to all the hype - but I too recon you've all picked the right bloke.

Say, anybody heard from Freak ? He hasn't posted all day.
I sure hope he's just devastated by the Obamba win & nothing bad's
going on, but I just can't imagine him staying away from the board
because of that.
I am a little worried. I figured he'd show up by now .....

I saw him logged in a little while ago; about the same time as Byron was.
He's a big boy, he'll get over it.
(Hell, most of the country has lived with an asshole we didn't elect and the havoc he has wreaked for eight years. This is the way it works, back and forth. Come on.)

I was wondering that myself... He's probably building some kind of underground bunker... for the end of the world...

well, that's sorta what I meant - I can't imagine the fucking elections would keep him away, so I'll assume he's real busy with something, but it's not his pattern ...
just hope everything's alright, you know ?

Probably is.
I just told one doomsayer over on MySpace that he was full of shit. (This guy is always posting alarmist bullshit about fake Moon landings and "Da Commies is a' comin!" I honestly can't remember why we're "Friends". His latest "Welcome to the U.S.S.A!" bulletin was just too much.)
Was kinda surprised to see that Oyabun Nicodemus had also posted a bit of post-election silliness himself.
Um...can someone remind me if Dubya had any personal experience with international politics to speak of before he became preznut?

exoskel, huh ? what's one of them cost ? I've thinking about going the cyborg route for a few years now.
christ. whiskey & loritab's a nasty combination. sorry about that bullshit, people. again. maybe I need a
"Sandrider's Apologies to the Whole Board" thread. the thing is, for about a half hour before I really lose
it, I feel real lucid. I think, hell, I'm handling this. the late night postings tell a different tale, tho.
I guess I should be remorseful & embarrassed, and I guess I am a little.
but considering the things I've done in my life, well, this don't look so bad.

I think he is talking about his former chitinous carapace. Unless that Jewish shawl has unknwon properties. I would guess he is back down to one anus now too.

decriminalize or legalize? is it actually legal anywhere in the US yet?
It used to be legal everywhere in the USA.
Decriminalization is not the same thing as legalization.
Decriminalization means that possession will not be a "crime" punishable by jail time but a "civil" offense punishable by a fine.
There is still a federal law against it, though.

Curses! Out-languaged by a
mere lawyer?!
Fie then, I give you my anus,
which now is one. You won!
But the carapace remains!
Naught of me that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange!
Sand-nymphs hourly ring my knell...
Ring my knell?
You can ring my kne-e-ell, ring my knell!
(Ring my knell, ooh, ding dong! Ring my knell!)
You can ring my kne-e-ell, ring my knell!
(Anytime! Ooh, ring it now, ring my knell!)

Hearing this is almost as enjoyable to my ears as hearing FantaPop threaten me on HA. I personally love listening to people knock on lawyers....until they need one. Then its "Hey Greg! Lemmie buy you a beer, buddy!"
And I prefer to bang the drum slowly, O peeler of bellbottoms. Though I shall refrain while that anus is in my midst. Even if can morph into a nymph, she is sure to have an unsavory....taint....about her. Im afraid it taint my thing.

SandRider wrote:Georgia's still trying to elect a Senator ....
We did, finally!
Democrats lose Georgia senate race and 60-seat majority
Basically, the Democrats need 60 votes of the possible 100 (2 from each state) to avoid Republican filibustering. They had 59 after the General Election but in the Georgia Senate race no candidate got the greater than 50% of votes required, so we had a run-off yesterday.
A "Supermajority" would have left the Democrats unchecked in the Senate.
