YOU don't know the half of it!
Btw, the "gaffrey" fellow has changed his online name to "Infomaniac". I guess he thinks that's more edgy.

Historical movies aren't new (and that is what this one is), it's just that the current trend is for more recent history - like The Queen or Frost/Nixon.Redstar wrote:Maybe not, but the recent Facebook movie may have let them to think it's possible to adapt such a story with success. I think you're right. As world cultures become more homogeneous and global we should be seeing a shift in the "historical" pieces we see in media... Movies on the creation of Facebook and Google, both tools that help/ed in that globalization and the creation of the so-called "world village" are just the natural progression of things; it's what's most relevant to us these days. Still, is this really the thought-process behind the production of these movies?DuneFishUK wrote:Historical movies aren't new (and that is what this one is), it's just that the current trend is for more recent history - like The Queen or Frost/Nixon.Redstar wrote:Maybe not, but the recent Facebook movie may have let them to think it's possible to adapt such a story with success. I definitely think that the Facebook movie, and the perception that it's going to make money, has a lot to do with the Google movie getting developed. I think it's probably fair to say that the Google movie is part of a trend specific to the Facebook movie.

Top Gun Sequel
Top Gun Sequel - A Top Gun sequel is reportedly in the works and Tom Cruise is said to have agreed play fighter pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. The Top Gun Sequel project would likely include producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott, who collaborated on the original film.
The 1986 movie helped turn Cruise into an international sex symbol. There has been no official word on a target release date for the Top Gun Sequel.

Wait... Scientologist fighter pilot?

Are you sure it's not going to be a remake of the climactic ending of Battlefield Earth?!

From what I've read the sequel will have Maverick play a mentor role to a hotshot new pilot.Freakzilla wrote:Top Gun Sequel

Who's going to play the beard, to drown out the homoerotic undertones? Katie Holmes again?Redstar wrote:From what I've read the sequel will have Maverick play a mentor role to a hotshot new pilot.

The hotshot pilot will probably be Shia LaBoefffe or whatever his name is. Just because he seems to be in every movie as the protege to a crusty veteran.

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

OK, that works. After those shitty Transformer movies, he deserves to be the one Cruise gets crusty all over.

I completely forgot! Katie Holmes is in as a flight instructor, though I'd also read she's going to be the hotshot new pilot herself. The former is sounding more likely.SandChigger wrote:Who's going to play the beard, to drown out the homoerotic undertones? Hey, I read it. But now that I'm looking for a source it seems as if Cruise is possibly backing out of the movie after all.TheDukester wrote:You're not being serious with any of this ... ?

I get more entertainment from thinking about these ridiculous movies in pre-production than I do after they're released.
