You're right about that. But the problem is the same one I've stated here before
about my frustration with the civil war boards. A question is raised or a point is
mis-stated. The correct answer is given, and just fucking ignored. The correction
is posted again, and the response is "yeah, but ....{incorrect bullshit}" After awhile,
I get angry. Is this a discussion board or an editorial posting with no refutation ?

Are they reading the posts that answer their questions or correct their mistakes ?
Are they not understanding it ? I can't believe they could be that stupid. Merritt
has a reason - when he says something stupid and is refuted, he has to ignore it.
After the katee84 exchange on the "alien roads", I really kinda lost interest in the
argument - I had just wanted Merritt to respond somehow, either admit a mistake
{not bloody likely} or re-post his misinterpretation with some bullshit reasoning.

I didn't expect tools like Bel-Moulay to run with the idea in the opposite direction
of the truth for so long. I'll make fun of those people, call them stupid and dense
and pretards and so forth, but deep down, you'd think they be smart enough to
understand the basis of factual arguments.

Don't despair. I agree it's disappointing when you go through a lot of effort to formulate intelligent posts and they become lost in a sea of nonsense rebuttals. But don't overestimate the heat of the moment. I've had people come back to me after a good debate (sometimes even months later) and they came around on the issues. It doesn't happen often, but your words will reach a small few and will give them some insight. Even if only one person eventually comes around, you have to accept that as a victory.

You just can't "make" people care. They have to do that on their own.

I used to argue with them just to make it so clear to anyone who decided to read the thread that they could never think like the person I was thrashing. I never really thought about changing the minds of people like arnoldo.

There is joy in proving them wrong time and time again.

I grew up next to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield (and Cheetham Hill), the sound of Civil War cannons were common on Sundays when they'd have a little re-enactment. For some reason they stopped doing it a few years ago. Money issues maybe.
