perfect evidence that FH would loathe the "we're going to write as many books as possible to explain every little detail of the duniverse in our way and we're the only ones right crazy talifans" attitude.
you're very welcome - I thought it was important to the current discussions - I've seen a lot of controversy over Frank's "motives" in the way Dune was written - it's very hard to argue with Frank's own words (or, since this interview was taped, Frank's own Voice) : I deliberately did this in “Dune” ......

Did you get those from his site or do you have that shit sent to you?

Anyway, first page:
Paul of Dune spent five weeks on the New York Times bestseller list Top 25.
Is that accurate? Was it really there five whole weeks? I thought it had dropped out by three or so.... Will go back and check.

But I love the fact that they don't go into any further detail than that. Piece of shit.

(I mean both Kevin and the book.)

Looks like Kevin removed the leash and ball gag from Brian for these pics.

I think so. But, as usual, The Hefty Hiker pads his stats to make things better than they appear. Because that's what it's about: sales, awards, and lists ... not good writing.

Anyway, I think it was three numbered weeks and two "also selling" weeks.

Yes, it's five:

viewtopic.php?t=914&start=0

But read the second post down to find out how hideous the numbers really were for a book that was promoted heavily (it's "the DIRECT sequel to Dune!" in case you haven't heard).

Meh.

We never did get that professional review link, did we?

Posted: 03 Dec 2008 23:55
by TheDukester
We did not, in fact ... despite many requests for even one link. :)

Oh, hell .. blogs? Sorry, I don't really count the "anyone with a keyboard" faction.

No, the goal was to get a link to a professional review in some sort of established publication or site.

For newspapers, I would have settled for anything with a circulation of 50,000 or more (which would cover something in the neighborhood of the 170 to 200 biggest papers in the U.S.). For magazines, I would have settled for anything that appears at my local B&N. For websites, anything that's not basically just some joker with a bit of HTML knowledge.

And the response to this challenge? Crickets.

Bottom line: no one cared enough to bother with a review. :)

No, no, no, Andrew Ian Dodge is a published WRITER, damnit.
http://www.andrewiandodge.com

and he's got a CASTLE, too, so there.

seriously, you, Duke, of all people need to go read this
guy's review - and comment. And then go to Amazon and comment
on his books.

I swear I'm this close to actually buying something from Amazon
just to be able to post on him.

{edit}

suh-WHEET !! His wife's got a site, too :
http://www.ktdodge.com/
and they link back and forth to each other's posts !
how cute !

FAN-tastic. I've been banned & IP blocked from the Blogger New Network !

I doubt this had anything to do with the Paul of Dune review comments,
I left some NASTY messages for this crazy internet safety activist.
They had deleted those posts, and when I tried to repost, they tried
to install a nasty little piece of spyware ! I took care of all that, and
posted a nasty note all over the place detailing that adventure - now
I'm banned and yada-yada, but thru the majic of Proxy servers, just
took a look and saw all those posts were deleted. Some people are
sooooo touchy ....

{edit}
the last post on Andy Dodge's PoD review was deleted too - he had actually came back and responded, sort of. I sent that post to him via his own site.

I just went over there and had a look.

Whoa. What the FUCK?

Some people should *not* have access to a keyboard. Or should have a filter between brain and typing fingers.

Eh? :?

Sorry, Robbo, must have missed that bit.

What is it, a calendar with the dates marked for when Kevin has hiked up this or that mountain?

Something about life lessons learned hiking on the mountains or something to that effect.

Well ... from the expression on BriBri's face it looks to me like the same thing as Jodie Foster in that movie based on that Carl Sagan book...

Kevin will say it's because they sell so quickly bookstores can't keep them in stock. ;)
