Clearly they have sourced some ideas from the DE, or the DE authors (maybe just McNelly) had access to the same notes once upon a time.
Well, practically speaking, the Dune Encyclopedia IS the Notes.
Level 1: From the original FH six, body text only. If it's straight prose, there are no outs, it's the authors intent.
Level 2: Quotes and epigrams from the Original 6, including the appendicies.
Why are the appendices or epigrams less canon than the rest of the book? If Irulan wrote the original book, how does that effect the levels? What level are Irulan's versions of her own excerpts? Are the Irulan excerpts on a higher level of canon than the other epigrams?
Obviously, Paul of Dune is on a higher level of canon than Dune, but are the Irulan excerpts in Dune on a higher level of canon than the rest of the books?

Interesting take. Thanks!
If you sit on one of them until they fall asleep, it feels like a different person.

I admire your passion and enthusiasm for the works of Kevin J. Anderson. It reminds me of a stint I had working as a prison guard at Jessop. There was an inmate who kept forcing pens, straws, and anything else he could find into his urethra.
One day I asked him, "Why do you keep doing that?"
He said, "Don't knock it 'til you tried it."
I still don't understand why he kept doing that to himself, and I probably never will, but he was very passionate and enthusiastic about it...
Have you ever been to Jessop, Arnoldo?

Post subject: I thought the Norma Cenva character stank.
Had she been left has a Human (all be it different) and the inventor of the Holtzmann theory that would have been fine. But to be the FIRST person to discover the prescient properties of Melange, become the founder of the Spacing Guild, inventor of the glow globe a hero of the Bulterian Jihad AND capable of Shape-shifting?!?!?! NO! She was mentioned exactly ONCE in the originals by Leto II and given credit for the Holtzmann theory. Doesn't anyone else think he other achievements would have been worthy for history?? Alexander Bell gets credit for the light bulb, why not Norma for the Glow Globe, a device that is still being used 10,000 years + after its invention? Leto says her name is one that had been lost in time. Serena Butler is remembered and she just had her baby killed. Norma supposedly saved humankind...and not remembered? Then there were he powers. Even Leto II didn't have that kind of power, and Norma was at a WAY earlier evolutionary point then any of the Post-Jihad Atreides. The Norma Cenva ruined the limits of reality within the Duniverse for me.

New theory? How has N never heard of this before? If I'm not mistaken, that's the theory that was generally accepted by all/majority of fans for the decades BEFORE McDune screwed things around...Nicodemus wrote:The theory that the Butlerian Jihad that Alliz posed is a new one for me. I had never before come across anyone else who felt as though the Jihad had been a political/religious movement to free mankind of its dependence on Machines.
I DID NOT post this to prove who is right or wrong. I am very interested to see how many share this new theory of Allis & Crysknife’s.
