I think the Dune Novels board and the actions of its administrator (I just had my password changed because I wrote a farewell sig.-message asking people to PM if they truly wanted to discuss things) is polarizing people, to the point where we have an "us-vs-them"-mentality.
Don't get me wrong, I hate the new books and their authors, and I do not buy for a second their claims that they 'love dune', are great Frank Herbert fans, etc. - they are obviously either deluded or just do not care.
My dislike for Byron and eg. Arnoldo stem from their seemingly conscious attempts to misdirect debates, not answer questions, strawmanning or blithely badmouthing me - or just enabling that behaviour by not calling out those who do it and banning those who ask tough questions.
I do not hate anyone for liking the new novels, but I do think they are wrong when they claim the novels are in any way a possible continuation of Dune, that they are possibly consistent with FH's work or in any way anything more than young-adult sci-fi romps set in a universe their authors do not respect.
I am more than willing to debate these points, and tell you and others why I believe as I do.
And I would love to discuss Dune with you. Discussions featuring the work of Brian 'I piss on my father's grave' Herbert will probably feature, if nothing else, then a fitting sobriquet for him - like the present one.
But for my 2 cents, you are very welcome, and got far harsher answers than you deserved.
