Was checking out what's going to be showing over here over the next month or so...

The Downing/Law Sherlock Holmes thing starts on the 12th; I'm thinking whoever cast it was on major drugs ... for severe head trauma, but I don't know, I'm kinda in the mood for a "leave the brain at home" romp and will probably go see it.

Burton's Alice in Wonderland with Depp has also caught my eye, but it doesn't start until late April.

And it looks like District 9 finally managed to swim across the Big Water, so I might see it again.

Space Invaders? Missile Command? Asteroids? Meh. If they show up on my satellite channels and there's fuggall else on, maybe. But I'm not going to encourage the production of that sort of crap by paying to see it in the theater.

Dont like depp, will leave it at that.

Agree Hollywood has gone blank in the membrane, Clash of the titans CGI'd to no end... jesus the previews are an assault on the eyes!! and its in 3d to boot!! the face of the kraken reminds me of some other movie with that same look cant think of it at moment.

the vid game movies, ah well, if they do it just below stupid, will park my brain and watch when hits video. I will admit it, I liked the Wing Commander movie, it was just stupid fun.

Waiting to see whats next. Mortal Kombat remakes?

Not sure if you all caught this, but was watcing one of those wasteland channels on Cable waiting for a show to start and it was talkign about the oscars. It said that the female director for The Hurt Locker was married for a short time to James Cameron!! Her movie (low budget) is going up against the AVATAR MegoLOPolis for best picture. Thought that was kinda neat twist, Hope Hurt locker wins, really good movie.

I'm not sure about that, but I will say this: for a guy who got his start sporting a mullet on 21 Jump Street, he's really come a long way.

Depp, Robert Downey, Jude Law ... I usually come away impressed by their performances. I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I think their ages are similar.

Jeff Bridges won the IFC Spirit Award last night for Crazy Heart ...

not sure how or why movies are considered "independent" anymore -
where's GamePlayer to explain it to me ?

I saw the movie and I thought it was great, but it really is right my back yard ...

strange to see Bridges morph into Kristofferson, Waylon, Billy Joe Shaver &et al ...

don't know that he deserves an Academy Award for it, but I liked it alot ...

I thought Avatar was great - I really properly enjoyed it.

But Hurt Locker was better. Fingers crossed for a repeat of the BAFTAS where Hurt Locker beat Avatar 6-2.

Saw Wonderland yesterday. I can say that while the visuals and character-designs were pretty nice, the movie just didn't feel like an adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Which I don't believe can really be adapted anyways).

The movie has a plot, to put it simply. A beginning, middle, end. There's a conflict. Alice has a character flaw she needs to resolve, and all of that just structures a world that was never meant to have structure. The books are all about nonsense, and the movie just tried to make it serious. Wouldn't recommend it.

I'm almost in the same boat. It's not an interpretation of the book, but I never expected it to be. I really expected it to be "The Mad Hatter: The Motion Picture", but it really wasn't that either. I have to say I enjoyed it better than Avatar, excepting the Johnny Depp fangirls in the theater. I was expecting "Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland", and that's what I got, nothing more, nothing less. So, I'd recommend it if you're into seeing Tim Burton stuff, but only.

The new Peter Parker is cast with Andrew Garfield, a relatively unknown actor.

Image

In my opinion he's pretty unattractive and looks too old for the supposed "high school" reboot. Parker was never meant to be a hunk, but he at least had geeky charm. They should have cast Donald Glover like everyone wanted, including Stan Lee:

All these animal CGI kids films piss me off. I am just waiting for them to ruin Snoopy. Ironically, seeing as I am going into 3d Modelling, there is a good chance I may work on some of that crap.

There is a great chance of that happening. My friend helped make a Christmas special for Macy's :tissue2: and he also did some work in The Love Guru. :tissue2: :tissue2:

I think it's going to be a lot better than it sounds, if only because it's directed by David Fincher, who I think will be great for that.

Looks like total shit....

Nah. Looks pretty good, if only because I enjoy some of the actors in it and the premise is good. I was under the impression it would be a comedy and that's not something I would enjoy.

Pretty good.

Alicia Witt plays an awesome psycho bitch, she'd be a perfect CoD Alia.

i know this is an old post but i was looking through this today and noticed this quote by freak, alicia whitt actually played alia in lynch's Dune, it was on cable the other day and it was the first time i ever noticed it.

Just watched Alicia Witt in the D-Girl episode from the 2nd Season of the Sopranos. She's incredibly hot. I, also, think she'd still make a great Alia for a hypothetical CoD movie. And Kyle MacLachlan would still be one of the worst possible choices for Paul.

I think all of us would be willing to forgive whatever adaptational changes arise in the movie and go en-mass just to make sequels where Alicia plays an adult Alia possible.

Also, his hair insists on having its own trailer on the set. Runs up production costs.

Kyle MacLachlan MADE that movie by being so utterly wrong for the role (without some comic releif from his hair the movie would have been frighteningly serious). At least he was an insane Dune fanatic though, not just someone taking a role. Supposedly he read Dune every year since he was 14.
