Paul saw the GP but not humanities extinction, they are not one in the same. Leto prevented the extinction before the GP was permanently set. The GP was a lesson for humanity so he didn't have to worry about an extinction after he was gone through the evolution/maturation of humanity. Leto's transformation served both purposes.

Paul could have seen the GP as a good thing but not seen the extinction and his noble instincts from his honorable Atreides upbringing made him cringe at the thought of whipping humanity for 3500 year just to teach them a lesson.

I do not think that KJA/BH have damaged Frank Herberts Dune novels or the memory of a great man. I believe that saying that damage has been dome is incorrect. pologies for the muddyness of the earlier post.
