Greetings from an old Fedaykin

Post by TypeO »

Got this link from Facebook, but won't mention from who specifically since it's not so polite to use real names on forums.
Thrilled to find somewhere to discuss Dune, and specifically Dune canon, as opposed to the literary rape and pillage a certain pair of shameless, money-grubbing hacks (who shall remain nameless) are foisting upon the masses as rapidly as possible.

Discovered the Duneiverse back in the early 80s.
Incredibly, the first book of the series I read was God Emperor.
I'd never heard of Dune, but the title and jacket description were fascinating.
Needless to say, it took a supreme effort to understand without the benefit of the glossary from the first book, but I managed to get a decent understanding of most of the words through context.
But I was absolutely blown away by the philosophies and concepts that were involved.
I immediately searched out and read the first 3 in proper order, and then the last 2 as they were released.

I have since lost count of the number of times I've re-read all of them.

When the House books came out, I broke down and read them out of curiosity, and found them to be a weak substitute for the real thing, but I didn't despise them.
It was like Dune methadone - not as good, but kinda cool to be back in that realm.

However, this summer I suddenly felt the need to revisit Miles Teg's awesome transformation so I re-read Heretics.
That, naturally, lead straight into Chapterhouse.
Suddenly, I found myself with the familiar feelings of sadness, disappointment and curiosity about "what might have been".
I noticed some posts on the Dune Facebook page and my curiosity overwhelmed me, and I gave in to my inner "closure-freak" and read Hunters.
I won't torture you with the details of how painful it was to trudge through, I'm sure you already know.
It became a task, but I was determined to finish, and so I also read Sandworms.

Now I am a full-fledged despiser of all that is those flaming pantloads who shall remain nameless who desecrate the original canon.

Glad to be here.

Welcome! :orcs-buttshake:

Although all McDune is terrible, Hunters and Sandworms made me lose faith in humanity and I think I may have even questioned my sanity.

Welcome to the sietch. Someone will be by to claim your water for the tribe. Don't worry, no retrieval of the water (just yet ;) )

You've already seen the green tushie so the only other advice would be to watch out, some of the members like to bite. Not too hard... usually and the rest are Mostly Harmless.

Why yes, yes it is.
They aren't even my favorite band, but I've used the name on so many forums now it suits me.

Thanks for the warm welcome, it is most appreciated in matters of water.

Welcome. Your Water is Ours.

yes, from your intro post, you have found the like-minded and same-story tribe ...

and I suppose this is another empirical example of the value of some of us taking the time to
wade out into the filth and moisture-wasting spewings of "other" Dune-related sites, and leaving
a trails of crumbs back to the sietch ....

as to the username, along with the blood-type reference, I also thought "typo" ...

I am also a little familiar with the band Type O Negative, thru an "email alert" from the
Southern Poverty Law Center's Klan Watch - someone there was in a tizzy when this
band was signed to a major deal, claiming they were of the Neo-Nazi skinhead HateMetal
genre - in fact the email subject was "Racist Skinhead Band signed by (whatever label it was)"

I took a look then, and a little later when they got more publicity, and every now & then ...
they look like a typical band, I can't tell if their lyrics are any farther out than anybody else,
and most of the time I don't know what they're saying anyway, but they are certainly not of
the serious underground neo-nazi metal bands, the kind whose music can only be donwloaded
from stormfront.org with a password ...
................ I exist only to amuse myself ................

I personally feel that this message board, Jacurutu, is full of hateful folks who don't know
how to fully interact with people.

I don't know every album they did - October Rust was my favorite.
As for Neo-Nazi/racist/skinhead/hate/etc., that would be news to me.
They were (lead singer Peter Steele died earlier this year) basically heavy goth metal, but nothing I heard indicated anything like that.
They were pretty much mainstream metal, fairly well-known.
I consider myself fairly sensitive/aware racially (an obvious effect of the witches breeding program).
