It's great how the McDune proverbs sound just like a 12-year-old filling a spiral notebook with shit he thinks is awesome.

And how none of the idiots involved — Keith, Bobo, Becky with all of her edits — ever see that.

I'll bet both Keith and Bobo get these real serious looks on their faces while they come up with those inane proverbs ... they squint, squirm around a bit, and really fucking concentrate, you know? And then ... finally ... they get it just right.

And they lean back, thinking, "That is profound."

Not realizing what a complete joke they are.

Um, the problem here was the lack of attention to detail that resulted in the misspelling...

I mean, the "proverb" is originally from a conversation in Dune, yes? Paul speaking of something his father said. They just appropriated it for a McDune epigraph, like they do so very often. (I've been wanting to source all the McDune epigraphs someday... I think it would be educational to see just how many have been pulled from the originals.)

Right, right ... I was speaking generally. Clearly, Idiots One and Two feel compelled to imitate the structure of Dune (other than they write insanely short chapters, of course), but there's some great unintentional comedy in some of their epigraphs.

Most of FH's, on the other hand, sound like they belong in the story. He also wrote far fewer of them, since he was capable of writing a chapter more than 300 words long, and they have far greater impact.

It is from the conversation between the younger Tuek and Gurney Halleck:

"Your men tell me your father is dead, killed by the Harkonnens," Halleck
said.
"By the Harkonnens or by a traitor among your people," Tuek said.
Anger overcame part of Halleck's fatigue. He straightened, said: "Can you
name the traitor?"
"We are not sure."
"Thufir Hawat suspected the Lady Jessica."
"Ah-h-h, the Bene Gesserit witch . . . perhaps. But Hawat is now a Harkonnen
captive."
"I heard," Halleck took a deep breath. "It appears we've a deal more killing
ahead of us."
"We will do nothing to attract attention to us," Tuek said.
Halleck stiffened. "But--"
"You and those of your men we've saved are welcome to sanctuary among us,"
Tuek said. "You speak of gratitude. Very well; work off your debt to us. We can
always use good men. We'll destroy you out of hand, though, if you make the
slightest open move against the Harkonnens."
"But they killed your father, man!"
"Perhaps. And if so, I'll give you my father's answer to those who act
without thinking: 'A stone is heavy and the sand is weighty; but a fool's wrath
is heavier than them both.'
"
"You mean to do nothing about it, then?" Halleck sneered.
"You did not hear me say that. I merely say I will protect our contract with
the Guild. The Guild requires that we play a circumspect game. There are other
ways of destroying a foe."
"Ah-h-h-h-h."

Well in all fairness it is Paul attributing the phrase to his Father. But it's still lazy.

The perils of searching & reading out of context: I made the same mistake, assumed from their attribution that it was Paul speaking of Leto.

Oh, no, it's completely a coincidence! :naughty:

And Kevvy has mentioned Vorian Atreides having "a bad day", so all the little preeqs are going to be preeking now.

Meanwhile @DuneNovels, it may be a new asshat who's slowly working their way through the official list of House Harkonnen quotes: I didn't notice any more spelling mistakes. :P

He reads every word. That right there just removes any doubt.

It's also Kevvie's (lame) attempt at a middle-finger salute towards us. Lame, Keith. Lame, lame, lame.

You just can't fucking fix stupid:

@TheKJA As I read The Winds of Dune, I forget it wasn't written by Frank Herbert. You and Brian should be very proud of The Winds of Dune.

@Jason_Mckie Thanks, Jason. We try very hard to be true to the Dune universe. Glad you enjoyed it.
