fear is the little death that kills me over and over

Post by Mandy »

What the fuck?

I was reading a Dune wiki and checked out the page on the Litany Against Fear. Did the Dumbasses of Dune actually write up a precursor to the Litany that went: "I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once."??? That is beyond stupid. I don't know how you guys can stomach that shit.

KJA is the little prick who offends and over and over.

Aye Mandy it seems they did.

I haven't read all of this yet, but the 1st paragraph seems a laugh a minute.

Fear is the little death that's kills me a little bit, over and over, killing me softly, smacking me lightly, killing me slightly, slapping my forehead, over and over, killing me softly, with his song.

I think he's a sneaky little preek! Or maybe he's just trying to be funny.
The Litany Against Fear

Let’s digg into the history before the era of the first Dune novel:

“I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once!”

- ancient form of the Litany Against Fear from The City of Introspection monastic retreat outside of Zimia (before the Butlerian Jihad.)

In my honest opinion, this is THE most comprehensive of them, very concise and full of wisdom. Try to recite it yourself. It focuses your mind and frees you of any fears indeed. You feel a new drive inside you and a wave of confidence rising and bursting to surface your consciousness.

There's something very wrong with the grammar throughout that article...
Well, first of all Frank Herbert’s Dune Novel and subsequent trilogies in the Duniverse is undoubtedly one of the most amazing science fiction literature pieces of work ever written. How other could I describe it? Hey, it would be sin just to own this book and not plan its time in the spotlight. It is daredevil amazing.
What!?

I think we're definitely dealing with someone who can't tell the difference between the originals and the new books.
There is a lot of action, there are a lot of dialogs… but those pieces of thinking diamonds hidden between the books covers… that is something I will always remember.
It has the rhythm of an Onasander.

EDIT:
I'm still trying to find out what the following means...
His other stories come more at the end of top 10 lists than this one, yet the gem of every sci fi fan’s top 10 list is one with Dune and a plan for one to read it ten times or more.
...and it's giving me a headache. It's like Bilbo Baggins at the Farewell party in LOTR.
"I must admit, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor...."

wow.

just when I think, well, after all I've already seen and heard about here,
there's really nothing Keith can do to shock me or make me mad in any of
the never-ending streams of babble pouring from his mouth (shit, g'head, dude,
make them Reverend Moms Jedis, and Jugglers, or Jedis w/ Big Jugs and an
oil painting of more Hot Fat Asses on the cover, &etc) and I've pretty
much assumed that the most egregious Crimes Against Frank, Literature & The
Little Baby Jesus have been cataloged here, so I don't expect to stumble into
the Sietch and find some bullshit like this lying on the floor ...

it almost makes me want to read the Pretarded DuneWiki,
but then I remember I was going to smash my balls in the oven door,
and I've only got so many hours in a day ...

as to this:
http://scifisciencefiction.com/bene-ges ... ainst-fear" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

another ESL? or a really, really bad writer ?
like, worse than Spanky ? fuck, that was painful to read ...

if I gave a damn about anything, I'd be worried about shitheels like this praising Frank -
I just don't think he could've really understood Frank's Dune ... and then to drop a
fucking horrid bomb like Spanky's Litany and not mention that it's McDune ?

on it's own, without any other reference, "fear is the little death that kills me over and over ..."
just sounds like some dumb shit on some fucktard's blagh ....

also:
I managed to get a hold of the complete saga and started to read them properly, from the first one to the last in…less than six days I believe!!!
wow. horseshit.
[I'm tired - insert your own clever, down-home mocking insult here]

on the bright side, his "post a comment" is still open !!
in reply to a comment, I've submitted :
Peter sez :"I had somehow missed the shorter version of the litany
in my reading of the dune series. Which book was it in?"

From this, and your post, it's clear that you haven't read
any of the McDune Product currently available at supermarket
checkout bins, bus station bathrooms, dumpsters behind Barnes
& Nobles, and under the piles of National Geographics at
Goodwill.

You missed this "version" of the Litany because Frank didn't
write it - uberHack KEVIN J. ANDERSON (StarWars & X-Files
franchise exploitation Tween paperbacks, a couple of extremely
silly little books based on DC Comics characters, a failure of
an "original" sci-fi series of books (with every idea lifted
straight from a string of real books by actual writers) which
was mysteryiously "wrapped up" about three or four books
short of what Kevin had been crowing about, a painfully
silly book about children on a moonbase, which is actually
a travesty considering is being sold (given away) at the
new NASA-sponsered Challenger Centers (call your congress-
person) did ...

well, no, KEVIN J. ANDERSON can't be bothered to physically
write anything these days, or atleast he can't say so, because
he's tied to his Industry Gimmick of "dictating Perfect Prose"
while "hiking". (see his multiple twits: twitter.com/TheKJA)

&etc. &etc. &etc.
please refer to : http://www.jacurutu.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
for most information ....

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
...versus...
I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over.

on straight usage of the English Language, it's clear
(to me) who was an actual author, thinker, poet, and
who is the out-of-breath babbling Pretender staggering
back to his Camry from the summit's snackbar ...

also, without the hyphen, Kevin's missed the subtle play
on "le petite mort" ... but that's really nit-picking,
consider the huge, basic things in Frank's Dune that
Kevin missed, or didn't understand, or never read
(God-emperor of Dune?)

most likely, some one else will come along and point that
not only does the quote read like nothing Frank would ever
even scratch on the back of a placemat in a pizza joint
(but guess who wrote a whole Young Jedi Knight Novel that
way?) this quote is almost a complete upending of the
meaning of the Litany.

read them both, together, back to back; they are not
saying anything close to same thing.

this is KEVIN J. ANDERSON's biggest failure as a "writer" -
he forgets that words mean things ...
awaiting moderation ...

aw shit, nevermind ...

I thought y'all had directed me to an article on a real website or some such,
but this a dead-ass wordpress blahg started by a fucking moron in December
of 2009, contains 7 equally worthless little mind-farts, the last of which
was this one in January of 2010.

I gotta start checking these sites out before posting, eh? I guess I'm still
not used to how just anybody can set up a really slick looking site for
free and start spouting non-sense - those kinda things used to cost
real money, and all the nutbags and blowhards and self-deluded "writers"
had was basic HTML ....

so that was a lotta sweet TehKJA-bashin' tossed into the void ...
glad I copied it, I wanna spread around that list of distributors of the McDune Product ...

a Sci Fi novel of huge epic proportions,
Leto II is gone for good, except for OM. The "pearl" was just that; a miniscule portion of what Leto was, and not a compressed version of the whole. The pearl that the worms have do not make them Leto, or in any way similar to him.

aww, hell yeah!

Imma steal that right now for Spanky's new book -
I'm think'n Hugh Jepic is Torus McCardigan's mentor/Jedi Master -
yeah, he's like the 3rd Ranking Rear Admiral of the Imperial Argosy,
rescued Torus from a Jarkonnen Slave Pit, taught him the Ways of
the Pressure (pressure is always all around you, My Son, pressing down on you)

the Second Rear Admiral is the Evil Menace, about to hatch a plot to knock off
the Old Man, the Grand Imperial Argosy Wizard, take control of the Fleet and chase after
the last remaining humans, on a desperate trek to find a sanctuary, a place known only
in Myth and Legend and the backs of Imperial Corn Flakes boxes; a place called .... Dearth.

@TehKJA: hey, who's brainstorming now, BEEE-OTCH !!!

Well, what can I say... KJA/BH aren't even trying anymore. I mean, what kind of nonsense is this? Yeah, we come with the original version of the litany  All of these "better than FH" would-be attempts look all stupid an none amusing. I'm disappointed, to say the least.

On the other hand, I must admit that it's not easy to maintain the same level of blundering "creativity" for more than 10 years non-stop.

For them it should be easy - as easy as sticking a finger as far down their throats as they can and wiggling. The inevitable sudden gag reflex takes care of the rest. Presto: McDunification! After 10 years it just means they have to stick that finger that much farther, that's all.
