Producers from Paramount Pictures were in town last week scouting locations for a remake of the sci-ficult classic Dune; the producers are choosing between London, Prague and Montreal.

Looks like I'm behind the curve & trendy kids on this one; hadn't really looked at Twitter directly today, oh well. Blogged it when I saw it, though. ;)

Yes, I always think of Montreal when I think desert, Dune-like climes.

And note that it was the producers who were in town, not the co-producers.

It's going to blow like the ... winds of Dune? :P

Oh, yeah, Keith would have Twatted about 3,000 times if he had been invited to make "important movie decisions" ... but he's not allowed at the Big People Table yet.

(And likely never will be. I would pay a million dollars to be on set the first time some Hollywood type says "fuck off" to Keith's face)

I think that those were the cities where drinking your own piss seemed to be most popular.

They're not going to do anything. They've been associated with the project to help promote the movie with the people who buy their books, which is why I like that KJA claimed that the release of the next book might be delayed if they have to do something for the movie. The only thing they would ever be asked to do would be to rush out a novel, or write the introduction for the behind-the- scenes picture book, or design the happy meal.

I don't think Pierre Morel is going to be on the set and say, "I'm not sure we've lit this right -- fire the Cinematographer! Where is Kevin J. Anderson?"
"He's working on 'Irulan Does Dune.' He's got 500,000 words already."
"Of course he has 500,000 words -- he's a genius -- and we need him to save this movie! Why are we in Montreal? It's freezing!"

Right, I know all that.

Here's what I'm saying: Keith will definitely be visiting the set (my prediction for Bobo: about three days in Hollywood, max). Can you imagine media gadfly and general all-around egomaniac Kevin J. Anderson not taking the opportunity to spend some time in California name-dropping and acting like a big-shot? He'll be all over it like a monkey humping a football.

He will only generate a certain level of respect if he insists upon going on-set, though. Hollywood has seen his type a million times. I really, truly, honestly believe that he will eventually get in the way and be told, literally, to fuck right off out of there. What I'm saying is that I'd be willing to sacrifice quite a bit — including JCHarwooderson's soul — to be there when it happens.

Yeah I agree with you. Twitter will go crazy and the name-dropping will be disgusting. There will be pictures from the set, and Keith will be wearing sunglasses. Some people will actually vomit on the computer.

Presumably these would be locations for Caladan/Kaitan scenes? Or maybe Arrakeen interiors?

Either that or they're not planning on filming "on location".

that's what I assumed from the beginning - why spend money flying a cast & crew to North Africa,
or even to the sand dunes on the Cimmeron River near Enid, Oklahoma, when you can green-screen
it for cheap ?

3D the CG, make it look like a video game, that's what the kids want ...
ooo, first-person 3D worm-riding, the hunter-seeker RIGHT IN YOUR FUCKING EYE ...

hell, make the fucker totally animated 3D, like the final fantasy movie, you don't have to
pay actors or a director or crew or catering or anything .... then, use the same fucking code
for the video game & online "interaction" ....

I think I could put all that together for a few six-packs of Mountain Dew and a couple of hookers ...
and if the coders were a hot lesbian couple, we wouldn't need the hookers ... well, ok, we might
need the hookers .... I'll just go ahead a get the hookers ...

I started to say that, or just "them dunes in eastern Washington",but thought that was too close
a joke for this crowd .... then remembered that little state park in north central Oklahoma -
interesting place, about 100 square mile of straight Sand Dunes, looks like the eastern seaboard
of Saudi Arabia ...

So, here we are over a year later, and does anyone know anything substantial that Byron can link to that will inform him about the Dune film?

I guess "some more" just means a blurb on a blog somewhere.

Sarah Aubrey .... producer
John Harrison .... executive producer
Michael D. Messina .... executive producer
Kevin Misher .... producer
Richard P. Rubinstein .... producer

3/5 (not including honorary "co-producers")

They have a decent budget, so they can afford to film it in the UK... but they might well choose to return to Barrandov for a third time. They have history there.
