Bless The Maker and His Water

Post by Durvi »

Hi! I'm 18 years old and I'm from Slovakia, little country in middle of Europe.

I read my first Dune when I was ten and I couldn't believe something that fantastic is wrote. I've read all six classic Dunes and some Brian's, too. (all prequels and Hunters). Of course he will never be as good as his Father, but someone had to end that opus magnum, and every story from Dune universe touch my heart. But there is too many action and deaths, where has gone all the Frank's epic storytelling and great thoughts? But that's too much off topic, I just wanted to introduce with my opinion :shifty:

Yeah, I'm also sorry for my english, I'm doing my best 8)
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Welcome to the forum, I think you'll find most people here are pretty critical/resentful of/towards the new authors (and Kevin is actually the main writer, we're fairly sure Frank's son's just helps a little to get his name on the cover).

Hope you enjoy the Dune discussions.

Wait, Frank had a son? Who writes? What's his name?

Not to wish physical ill on anyone, but just judging from the very little I know about the lives of each son, I think the literary world lost out on the better on to continue the series. Not that Bruce was necessarily a better writer (or a writer at all) but judging by the fact that he was an activist I think he would have had a better grasp of FH's work and would have at least picked better "help" if he'd decided to continue the series.

PURE speculation obviously, but I'm pretty confident in assuming that he would have at least simply done nothing rather than this garbage.

Hellooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

I was in your country a few years ago. I remember a bunch of sandstone lizards carved on street corners in Bratislava. And fantastic beer! Which may explain why I don't remember too much more.

Fantastic beer? Yes, that's us, for sure ;) But I'm living in Bratislava whole life and I can't remember any lizards. Funny

Well met and welcome!! Grab a spice beer and join in!

My family sir name is from slovakia, Great Grandmother came to USA in 1890's.
Best information I have is we are from the eastern most area of the country when it was
combined Checkoslovakia. I know it split in 1993, so my family history might be more the
Check Repulic now.

Anyway Like that area, wonder if its possible to get an older set of Dune in the language of the region?

If you know of something availble (Slovakian Ebay? or something similar) can send me a private message

Again Welcome!!

Welcome on board mate. Hope you enjoy it here, I know I do. You have found the spot filled with Dune Knowledge. These men and women know their Dune by Frank.

Just a few words of warning....some members might bite. So keep hands and feet in at all time and keep your shots up to date. ;)

But seriously. Welcome to Jacurutu.

I'd like to think that we also know the "Dune" by the hacks pretty well too. It's why we know they're so bad. And why none of those fans can win an arguments about their quality.

You got me there dear friend.

But could their books really be considered Dune?
