Fremen Mummies

My guess is- despite the widespread practice of liquefying the dead, there are a good many Fremen mummies out there by accident- as well as from the cities (dummies wandering into the desert drunk or for whatever reason) as well as the earliest settlers.

This video reminds me a bit of them. How much potentially could be preserved for a archeological dig after Leto's death- discovered by accident- the first Fremen communities- building and bodies largely intact prior to the realization that you really, really shouldn't build your colony out in the sands.

AFTER Leto's death? After 3,500-some years of a wet, reterrestrialized climate and a period of redesertification?

And with the worms, it's highly unlikely the earliest settlers on the planet did much of anything at all "out in the sands" other than scream and shout and try to take off again, let alone have time to "build [a] colony".

You don't really think these things through, do you?

Whats the clip aboot? Self-mummification?

And it's closer to the truth to say they dehydrated the corpse completely.

First off- Lotec's reply refers to the Japanese process of self mummification- the monks were alive and spent three years preparing..... it's not a desert mummification technique. One of my hobby specializations in mummification, been to several museums in thoughout the US that specialize in this.

Second- mummies have been found in Peru under waterfalls, and in Egypt which is full of Oasis and the Nile- and has a pretty sweet delta.

Third- many things go out into the desert and are NOT eaten- spice operations rely on this fact- if everything was eaten, Dune would be useless. Worms don't go everywhere on the planet. Any human habitat on Dune is going to be heavy in it's moisture- outhouses-waste, water for food, crops (what could be grown), etc. First people down on the planet are not going to come up with the idea for stilsuits the first day, and then go off to live in a cave sucking down shit water.... they own a spaceship- they come from elsewhere.

Fourth- the main problem only exists in your head- I've seen you make some pretty dumb fucking posts on this site that no one bothered to respond to. You continue in your self righteous dementia- urts yourself more than it hurts me.

Fremen have to liquify the body- I don't remember any mentions of them smashing bones and ripping up organs prior to reclaiming water- pretty certain that gruesome sight would of been mentioned... you cook a body, you'll entrap the liquids inside it's burnt outer layer- dumbfucks here know nothing about what happens to human flesh when you heat it up, or burn it- it seals heat and liquid INSIDE- I know this from Iraq. Drainage and heat loss is a bitch after getting bombed.

Only way they can get the water is to melt EVERYTHING. No mummies when retrieving water- unless you count flaky harden pile of crud around warped, flaky bone mass as a mummy. (it would be so awesome if someone else on this site besides me ever went to the middle east, or spent some time living in the desert, or was prior infantry and has a concept of what is required psychologically in a melee as well as sustained operations.... or even read a fucking book on military strategy- trust me, if the crying of idiot is to flow in any direction with any justice- it's me calling you a dumb fucking idiot- half your dribble is off topic KJA crap, and the other half is poor quality in terms of insight. All you can claim in return is my grammar sucks..... and yet you can still clearly read what I am saying. DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN BITCH! I'm moving to San Fransisco June to continue studying up on Frank (among other things)- all your going to do is jack off on this forum- get this through your very thick skull- your very, very limited in the quality of your insights- all you can do it bitch- and your bitching is mostly aimed at NON-DUNE subjects, such as KJA.

Get off your fucking ass- get out into the field, and do some hands on fucking research already. Learn about trades and sciences so you can explain what is going on. You have no authority other than cursing and running your mouth to back you up in anything. Your coming off clownish and demented as a result. JUST FUCKING DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN BITCH!

At least I'll have a really sweet ass book on Frank's life and influences to publish once the copyright is up. You'll only be known for harassment and scaring away fans.... and how long known outside of some footnotes of some nutcase out there I am doubtful. A little blog only has so much staying power in the long term....it will pass soon after you yourself pass. Little potential in someone like you. Grow up- and do something (no matter how old you claim to be, your still just a child).

This explains so much.
Onasander wrote:At least I'll have a really sweet ass book on Frank's life and influences to publish once the copyright is up.
What on earth are you babbling about now? What "copyright"? What does "up" mean in this reference?

If you're talking about a scholarly or biographical work on FH, you realize you could publish such a thing right now, right? I mean, literally, you could publish it tomorrow? As long as you didn't call it "official," no amount of HLP copyrights or trademarks could get in the way of a book about FH.
Onasander wrote:... your still just a child.
When you send the book off to your editor — when the "copyright" is "up" ... or something — I guess you'll just have to add a note that says you really, really struggle with the whole your/you're thing.

Thanks for the insight. Back on topic though. Why would the Freman, masters of moisture conservation, burn their dead to reclaim the tribes water. Sounds to me like you're describing a blister, INSIDE. Remember aftercare is your friend.

I've been to numerous pottery museums and exhibitions over the years. I guess that makes me a hobby specialist in yakimono, huh?
Second- mummies have been found in Peru under waterfalls
Completely natural ones? Please, explain how that works? Preferably with a link.
...and in Egypt which is full of Oasis and the Nile- and has a pretty sweet delta.
Since you're the hobby specialist, could you tell us the percentage of naturally occurring mummies found in the different climate regions of Egypt (Nile Delta, Nile River Valley, oases [sic], and deep desert)?
Third- many things go out into the desert and are NOT eaten- spice operations rely on this fact-
Now you're just being obtuse or demonstrating your ignorance of the novels again. Have you completely forgotten about carry-alls and their function? Spice harvesters out in the desert WOULD be eaten unless they were lifted out. FAIL.
Worms don't go everywhere on the planet.
True. They couldn't approach Arrakeen because of the Shield Wall. Or too close to the poles because of the worm line (ground too moisty due to the miniscule caps).
Any human habitat on Dune is going to be heavy in it's moisture- outhouses-waste, water for food, crops (what could be grown), etc.
Obviously not much of a deterrent if later, when Arrakis was desert again, settlements had to be protected by barriers of wetted sand. (Remember Sheeana's hometown?) Or will you do a McDune and claim the latter-day worms were different in this respect from those of earlier times?
First people down on the planet are not going to come up with the idea for stilsuits the first day, and then go off to live in a cave sucking down shit water.... they own a spaceship- they come from elsewhere.
If they didn't do proper surveys from space and detect the worms before landing, well...a landing in the desert would not have gone well. (Worm say GULP!) The rest of this, blah blah blah, irrelevant.
Again, you're just showing your ignorance of the books. The deathstills are described as producing "ashes". READ the books again.

Really? Why just yesterday a "science fiction author" called me "a leading expert on the Dune novels"!
At least I'll have a really sweet ass book on Frank's life and influences to publish once the copyright is up.
Oh ... you've stolen someone else's work and are waiting for their copyright to expire? That's very HLP-style, with the Dune Encyclopedia and Khalid's Arabic webpage content! Good luck on that!

Sweet ass book... hmmm, I'm having a little trouble parsing that. Do you mean [sweet [ass book]], to go with your ass hat, or [[sweet ass] [book]], referring to some odd cover material? Please explain.
You'll only be known for harassment and scaring away fans.... and how long known outside of some footnotes of some nutcase out there I am doubtful. Wow. I can only assume that you are referring in some way to your own insecurities and anxieties, or talking to someone else here, because you certainly didn't push any of my buttons there. Good luck with your book and your own immortality! ;)

As for the question of real mummies on Dune, the Preacher shows the crowd a mummified hand from the desert, IIRC. And later, when Odrade finds Tabr, she finds the outer areas of the ancient sietch filled with mummified bodies from the Tyrant's time or soon afterwards. That's 1500 years old at least, no more than 5,000 at most. No mention of Fremen remains from before Leto's time, though. Smells like FAIL to me. :D

What was that about heating keeping the water inside? Yeah... if you do a half-assed job. I've burnt animal corpses before (died of natural causes) before and I can see where you got that idea, but you didn't put enough thought into it. If you burn it down to ashes and bones you'll get ALL the water out very quickly. Hence the word "still" in deathstill.
