Kinky Friedman: Why The Hell Not ?

Post by SandRider »

My friend Kinky has announced that he will again make a run
for the governorship of Texas. This time he will run as a Democrat
(last time he ran as a Independent) and he says he will "play by
the rules" - if he loses in the primary he will support and campaign
for the Democratic candidate.

I've met the man many, many times over the years, first at concerts,
later at political events around the state. Drank with him, smoked some
of Willie's Weed with him a few times. He most likely couldn't call my name,
but he'd still recognize me, call me "pardner", and thank me for bringing my
flask.

Over the past 20 years or so, Kinky's been the only person in this whole
fucking state who's made any sense to me. I'd suggest reading some of
his fiction novels, to get an idea of just how smart this sumbitch really is ....

He's had a column on the last page of Texas Monthly for quite awhile - usually some decent stuff, if kinda hurriedly written.

I'll be ramping this topic up later on - not much going on now,
the sitting Republican guvner, Rick "Lookit Mah Capped Teeth" Perry
is already in a good fight with his Republican challenger, US Senator
Kay "Taxes ? I don't pay no taxes !" Hutchinson, and the only real
competition Kinky might've had for the Democratic nomination just
announced he's gonna run for re-election in the State House.

Still real early, tho.

But, I wanted to bring to attention this little ol' story from West Texas,
to give all y'all across the Red River and around the world a better look
at what Texas is really like, not what you've seen on TV.

(& yeah, I was a little too close to this story, too ...)

from Texas Monthly :
"Letter From San Angelo
The End of The Affair

J. W. Lown was a popular, twice-reelected mayor with a bright political future—until he was forced to choose between his two passions: his city and his lover."

{Yeah, since Waylon died Official Tittie Inspector's been up for grabs.}

now, this here's the Texas y'all keep hearing about on the news ...

forwarded to me by my idiot brother :

From: Texas Nationalist Movement <president@texasnationalist.com>
Subject: National Day of Action - September 2, 2009
To: my_idiot_brother@yahoo.com
Date: Monday, August 31, 2009, 10:33 AM

My fellow Texans:

Governor Rick Perry generated a lot of publicity back in April when he commented following a Tea Party rally in Austin that Texas “reserves the right to secede” from the Union, and for weeks after that made several other statements seemingly supportive of state’s rights. Then he did just the opposite of what he said he’d do, accepting federal money used as bait to force Texas to adopt programs we don’t need.

It’s time for the governor to prove that he wasn’t just making “pillow talk” during an election cycle to ensure he’d retain the support of his party’s conservative wing. It’s time to prove that he believes what he says and is not just posturing for the cameras.

I have called for a National Day of Action on Wednesday, Sept. 2, urging all Texas Nationalist Movement members to contact the Governor’s office and demand that he convene a special session of the Legislature to enforce state sovereignty by nullifying federal legislation which intrudes upon the constitutional rights of Texas and Texans.

I am urging you to flood the Governor’s switchboard at (512) 463-2000 with calls demanding that a special session be convened, and that Gov. Perry live up to his promise to defend our state’s sovereignty.

We have also placed a form on the Texas Nationalist Movement website for you to send an email as well. You can access the form at this link: http://www.texasnationalist.com/national-day-of-action" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If the Governor will not act to protect the rights of Texas and Texans as enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, then we will.

I wrote a story that had California and Texas attempting to secede from the Union, and won a civil war at the aid of Mexico and its allies of communist Central America... The states won, and the governors offered to join Mexico, which "graciously" accepted. They'd orchestrated the whole thing.

Southerners came out here with Stephen F. Austin and became Mexican citizens,
officially converted to Catholicism as a requirement for that citizenship, and for
the most part, were happy to be a part of Mexico.

Until Santa Anna overthrew the government & nullified the 1824 Constitution.
(one of the flags that may or may not have flown over the Alamo is a
Mexican tri-color with "1824" on it - signaling Santa Anna's army what
the fight was over. There were many "mexicans" in the Texas army.)
{this is the flag I fly over my camps here on the ranch.}

What got thrown into the mix was that asshole, Sam Houston. He'd been
sent to Texas by Andrew Jackson to stir up the white folks well before Santa
Anna took power. One of Santa Anna's original justifications for putting the
Tejas province under martial law was Houston & his rowdies talking revolution &
secession from Mexico.

Sam Houston was responsible for the racial tension stirred up during this time
period. He bullied his way into the Anglo leadership, ended up in control of
the Texas army, and the first president of the Republic of Texas. This was all
bullshit, too, because from the beginning, his goal was to bring Texas into the
Federal Union. He had no interest in an independent Texas, and did his best
to kill it as soon as possible.

He also happened to be the governor in 1861 when the state seceded & joined
the Confederacy. He tried like hell to stop that, too, it undid what he saw as
his life's work.

By then, everybody had had enough of him & the Union, and Houston was run
out of the state, back to the Indian Territory where he had maintained several
Cherokee wives over the years. He wandered around present-day Oklahoma
naked & bitter until he died.

And at this point, with the "mexican" population Texas has, re-joining Mexico
ain't as crazy as it sounds. When them damn-fool rednecks like my brother
start talking about breaking with the Union again, they never take into
consideration that fact. In a straight up or down, fair vote, we'd re-name
this motherfucker Tejas.

But none of that kinda crap is ever gonna happen. It's like Freak's "Take
Back America" revolution, and my communist, Burn the Motherfucker Down
Revolution. The corporations & robber barons that control the banks and
the government (& so the army & CIA & FBI) aren't sweating a bunch of
agitated nuts on the internet, or in town hall meetings, or anything.

There'll be no more "revolutions for independence".

Nations mean less & less anyway, these days, when all the governments
of the world are bought & paid for by global business interests.

So everything being equal, and the people have no real effect
on government, anyway, y'all vote for Kinky. Why the hell not ?

I was going to start another thread "Innocent Men Executed by the State of Texas",
but there are just tons of them now, and today's event has to do with the governor's race, so ...

any way, Texas Gov'ner Rick "Looka Mah Hair an' Teeth" Perry was on the Tee-Vee today
going apeshit about all the people who continue to accuse him of a massive cover-up in the
2004 execution of Todd Willingham.

(google the details for yourself) - short story : dude was innocent, evidence presented by
chimpanzees, when questions were raised, Perry fired and shuffled around the questioners.

couple this with the brouhaha of a few weeks ago when Gov. Greathair's IT kids flubbed up
a web-broadcast speech, and Perry called in the FBI, claiming "sabotage and hacking" by
his "opponents", and all the other damn-fool things this boy has done over the last ten years,
and Gov. Rick Perry looks like a piece of fucking toast.

Which means his Republican primary opponent, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, is looking like
the likely winner already. Plus, Perry-fatigue, man's been governor longer than anybody, ever,
already, just ain't no sense in giving him another term. Even if he wasn't an idiot.

So Kinky needs to go ahead and start talking head-to-head about The Lady from Washington.
I fear they won't, however - the strategy seems to be for all the Democrats to sit back and
wait for Perry to implode and/or be slashed apart by the Hutchinson campaign.

This is the wrong tactic, tho; all that does is make Kay stronger.

Thanks for your attention to this vital matter of great importance,
and may the God of Your Choice Bless and Keep You.

i was a fan of kinky when he announced his bid. every time he talked i liked him more and more.

however, the debates with "one tough gramma" and good hair perry were very hard to watch. perry was the only one who seemed to come prepared.
i just remember kinky's answers being drawn out or lacking substance. gramma was just a series of worn out sound bites; a waste of air. she is better suited
to be the bulldog after austin's capital metro.

with kinky as a democrat, i really have no choice but to vote for him. my vote will certainly confuse the shit out of the RNC, though, since i am a registered republican (only cause i voted for ron paul in the primaries). i wish there were a strong libertarian candidate for governor, though. at least a
third option.

update, cause I just plain forgot :

Kinky dropped out of the race, going to run for Ag Commissioner or some shit ....

what happened was he said he was going to "play by the rules" and be a Good Democrat,
and the Leaders told him to drop out, they're going to run Bill White ....

(Bill White the former mayor of Houston, not Bill White the Nazi, current president of
the American National Socialist Movement)(or the black Bill White, first baseman for
the Giants in the 50s)(and yeah, I been having fun with my local county Party Leaders
with all that ....)
