Noble Houses of Dune
I was skimming through my Dune novels trying to find out any information on the Noble Houses of the Dune universe.
We all rember quite clearly that House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Corrino (the actuall houses not the books) existed. However, I was wondering if Frank Herbert ever mentioned any other houses by name?
The preq's mention quite a few - but those do not count. I am only interested in what FH wrote about.

Anything Dune not written by Frank Herbert is simply Fan Fiction.

Re: Noble Houses of Dune
The only other Great Houses FH mentions are House Moritani and House Ginaz.

Thanks. Was that from the apendicies at the end of Dune?Freakzilla wrote:The only other Great Houses FH mentions are House Moritani and House Ginaz.
The reason that I ask about the Houses is that I recall Frank Herbert mentioning Ix several times and, unless my memory is too fogie from reading too much McDune that Paul has Richesian blood, but nothing of House Vernius or of House Richese.

Terminology of the Imperium
GRUMMAN: second planet of Niushe, noted chiefly for the feud of its ruling House
(Moritani) with House Ginaz.
IX: see Richese.
RICHESE: fourth planet of Eridani A, classed with Ix as supreme in machine
culture. Noted for miniaturization. (For a detailed study on how Richese and lx
escaped the more severe effects of the Butlerian Jihad, see The Last Jihad by
Sumer and Kautman.)

negotiators question the amount of the Imperial Tax which they --"

The Hacks Twain wouldn't know a Great House or a Great School if it bit them in the ass.

Dune mentions several other planets but not houses if I recall.

Re: Noble Houses of Dune
If my files be true, Richese is mentioned 206 times in things with "DUNE" on the cover, but only 3 of them in an actual DUNE book.
What's most interesting about this shit is you can judge from the very first McDune book the magnitude of KJA's "literary penis envy": he not only has to "out-Dune" Frank Herbert, he has to out-Greek Aeschylus. And he's been dust for nearly twenty-five hundred years.
So, in the McDuniverse, Duke Leto's mother/Paul's grandmother is supposedly from "House Richese".In House Atrocious, a couple(?) of hacks wrote:"That is not the point, Paulus, dear. People are watching." It was Leto's mother, sitting on the other side of the Duke. The dark-skinned Lady Helena, dressed in her fine gown, took seriously the ponderous words of the Greek chorus. "Pay attention to the context. It's your family history, after all. Not mine." Leto looked from one parent to the other, knowing that the family history of his mother's House Richese carried just as much grandeur and loss as that of Atreides. Richese had sunk from a highly profitable "golden age" to its current economic weakness.

Re: Noble Houses of Dune
but Richese is not a House is it?
Unless I missed something last time I checked it was just that planet where they produce gizmos in Dune, period!
Just to make it clear, the hacks claim:
-that Richese is a Great House(Major?)
-that Leto I's mother was Richesian?
I think that quote:

Fartblocker and the jacket make them house's in Mcdune, but they are just competing tech corps for lack of better description. Freak said it, Moritani and Ginaz only others mentioned.

So FH never mentions Richese ancestry with Paul/Jessica? It was in the new books? I feel as if I should remove myself.

In Children of Dune (chapter 11) a house minor, Nebiros is mentioned:
house minor, the Nebiros, who traded in holy artifacts and small manufactured items for decoration.

If we trick him into saying his name backwards will he disappear into an alternate dimension?

You have summoned me. Still reading God Emperor. Taking a while to read since I'm reading three books at once. So what do you want?
Yes that's right. My screen name is taken from Children of Dune.
