Some of that stuff has "OH prank" written all over it; I think Merritt is being gamed pretty good.

There is no possibility that any person with enough higher function to operate a keyboard could post that KJA/Jesus comparison. It is literally impossible to be that stupid.

Well, here's confirmation from smooty/NomadFaceDuncer:
In thread ALL THINGS DUNE » Why do people hate the new Dune books?, newfacedancer wrote:I think the conflict between the Others and the people who like the new Dune books is a deeper conflict than most people imagine. It is more at the level of conflict between fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslins.

At first, I, too, didn't care for the new Dune books because they aren't Intelligently Abstract like FH books. But, then I had a conversion experience similar to what St. Paul had when Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascuc and fell off his horse. Then, I realized there are other ways of being than just abstract intellectual thinking. I thought of Pop Art and Jungian Psychology's four functions. Then, of course, are the various paths where one has to drop out of the thinking mind altogether to open to Spirit.

So the clash between the Others and others I feel is more about different paradigms and ways of being than just writing styles.

I have no sympathy for the Others. They can be very vicious and nasty.
You got that last bit right, sweetheart. Come back to the grinder, real soon now. :) And he admits there what he denied here: "I, too, didn't care for the new Dune books.... But then I had a conversion experience...." So he HAS read them and accepts them in his own way. Which means jumbling the details up with those of the originals (e.g., a Guild Heighliner crashing on Chapter House Planet  ). The bit about one having to "drop out of the thinking mind altogether" to enjoy McDune is a nice touch, though.

Then later he continues:
Sorry, I meant OH'ers. I said what I said because I feel bad for Kevin Anderson. Maybe he is strong enough to deal with them. I owuld not be if I was in his position. I would have to find a shaman and have the shaman do a soul retrieval for me.
Um, yeah, right, whatever. But at least he admits he can't take the heat. Which we of course already knew.

PussPuss has something to say in the same thread:
boardadmin wrote:Sometimes I feel like I'm back in grade school and on the playground: "I've got more friends that you! Nah-nah-nah!" Please guys and gals, lets stick to the core of these things. We all love Dune. It's why we're here. Some love all the books, some don't. Wow. Shocking.

I've always said that this will be the place where Dune fans (ALL DUNE FANS) can come and express their opinions on Dune as long as it didn't insult/attack the authors, the Herbert family, or other users. Some people just never get that. It's okay to disagree. It's not okay to (openly or covertly) attack others. There are message boards where attacks seem welcome, but not here.

A bit higher standard, please.

Thanks.
Yes, Mr "We all love Dune. And I sell out my grandfather DAILY!" admonishes us to follow the higher path.
Cuntatia wrote:For example: I consider myself OH, but I am banned from posting on OH sites other than those I run, ...
Oh goody, it STILL BURNS HER!

There's also a new poll thread started by Usal420 asking people which are their favorites, the original books or the new. (Running 6:1 in favor of the originals so far.) This same braintrust has observed in another thread
also Atomics really could be for Robots, as it does say other intelligence, not necessarily alien intelligence. And it makes sense to have atomics around to fight robots. EMP.
This is one after KJA's own heart, huh? ;)

My new favorite is still Onanysander:
In FOR LOVERS OF BOTH CLASSIC DUNE AND THE PREQUELS » How did you first hear about Dune?, Onasander wrote:... I am in process of starting a small publishing company, and know history and philosophy to the point where I can tell someone if it's good or bad (and hence will focus on that), and impart advice, but sci-fi is a bit stumping- it's one thing to enjoy it- as I do- to pretend to understand it academically, but it's another to sit there looking at someone with a manuscript of a tragic people living on a gum-drop planet suffering from the adverse effects of yard sprinklers and then having to figure out a way of telling them how to be.... eeeerm, progressively constructive and reasonable and also figure out how it is to remain potentially profitable at the same time. ...
That's just one paragraph out of six in the comment, btw. Gift of the gab?

Anyway, this guy can't even correctly spell the name of the city he claims to be posting from and he's going into publishing? Saints preserve us!

I don't know... Schu, you've interacted with him the most, what do you think? He's trying to portray himself as an adult, with the copyright stuff and all, but with that "AD/After Douche" post and everything else, I'm getting a strong "teenager bluffing" vibe. :?:

So much for this evening's round-up. :)

OK, here's more proof about how well Byron gets Dune:

Not necessarily. The Bene Gesserit would continue working for a KH and would have eventually bred another one, I think.
Um, right Byron. There, there, don't strain the ole noggin, laddo. ;)

Missed that bit about the BG not being what they should, not living up to their own mandate, only wanting a KH on the throne to strengthen their own hand in political manipulations, maintaining the stagnant status quo, I guess?

Wow. I just feel sorry for this Sagan fellow, getting terrible info from Spice Blandson. In my opinion, Sagan is on the right track. Leto II made it pretty abundantly clear that his way was the only way to ensure infinity for the Human race. Therefore, on a long enough timeline, the species would end even under Bene Gesserit rule. I always kind of felt bad for the BG. They never really did get their KH. I often wonder how things might have ended up if they had their way. What role would a KH under their control play? Maybe it's impossible to control a KH.

Well, to be fair to Myron (not that he deserves it), that's probably what's flitting through his big bushy head, that any KH would get out of control and end up behaving like Paul.

Which of course ignores the fact that Paul turned away from the Golden Path. :)

Leto II blamed the BG for his millenia of suffering, that seems to indicate that they COULD have created the GP.

If the BG goals lined up with what the KH perceived as right he may have chosen to cooperate with them.

Hmm this is interesting. What do you mean by "could have created"?

I always assumed that Leto's blaming them for his suffering was mostly because their actions directed humanity toward stagnation, thus forcing him to carry out The Golden Path. I guess I just assumed that the BG were too scared of The Golden Path to consider it a viable option, but now you are making me reconsider.

And these Hyperia and Myron characters sound like a dozen other 40 something internets I've seen masturbating to each other's posts. I believe I need to go get banned from this DN place.

No, the real challenge is to see how much you can subtly insult KJA, BH, their books and their fans before/without getting banned - it's easy to keep your mouth shut about some things and not get banned. Eventually, either you will not talk about these things at all, or you will get banned - I was probably the one OH that people thought was the least likely to get banned, I did everything according to how Byron said he wanted it, and still got banned. Apparently, even Byron's love slave Hypatia is getting some of her posts deleted these days.
