Hola, chicos and chicas!

Post by Spleefmistress »

My name is Spleefmistress, and I have been a huge fan of Dune for a decade now. It started when I read Dune in highschool

Since then, I have read all six books and own a copy of the Encyclopedia.

I am sad to say that I read the crap by Brian and Kevin. The Butlerian Johad trilogy was okay, the House entirely unneccessary, Hunters/Sandworms sucked, and Paul of Dune was the worst of the lot.

However, I liked the Dune movies, all three of them.

My contributions to the Dune fandom are rather meager, sorry to say. I've never been real active in this fandom, and my contrubutions are modest (but hopefully appreciated)

The only Dune fanfic I ever wrote. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4498936/1/W ... olden_Path (Leto x Ghanima) I kept this oneshot short and simple, as I was trying to emulate Frank Herbert's awesome style of writing

My Dune timeline http://www.geocities.com/spleefmistress/realdune.html (compares the canon Dune novel timeline to the timeline created by Brian and Kevin)

My Amazon.com profile, where I wrote snarky reviews for Bri Bri and Kev's works http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A3 ... aya_bb_pdp

I hope these please my fellow Dune fans.

Well, damn! I'm overwhelmed by the sheer welcome that I received here. And Sand Chigger, so nice to see you again! XD

I should mention a few more things I forgot last night.

While I consider the Encyclopedia canon, I call it a secondary source. Meaning, if anything in the Dune novels contradicts the Encyclopedia, then I take the novel facts as canon. Otherwise, whatever the Encyclopedia provides is canon as well.

I have read one of Frank Herbert's books, the Dosadi Experiment. Decent read. I have three of his other books that I have not yet read (I have a whole bookshelf full of books I have not yet read) What are your favorite non-Dune FH books?

Also, I was thinking of starting a drabble series/series of oneshots based on what I feel Dune 7 should be. If you've read the fanfic I showed you a link to, do you think I would do well? This wouldn't be more than ten drabbles or oneshots, and I am certain it would be better than McDune.

Do you guys think I should endeavour on such an attempt?

First chapter is done. I crave feedback and crit. Also, if any of you have a 'point' in Dune 7 you'd like to see me write about, I'm all ears.

:::Bows and moves to the left hand side::::::

Well Met!! and Welcome!! Allow your creative ideas to flow!

Try reading Whipping Star, its comes before Dosadi experiment. I have collected over the year all of FH's books. Destination Void is a mind bender (heavy hard sci-fi), the rest still working thru.

I really liked Destination: Void but it's loaded with technobable. There's THC in it though.
