Thanks, Lisan. Back to work!
Thang is pretty expensive, and GP is downright outrageous.

So she's a rogue Reverend Mother (a kindness, I know) that nobody wants to claim? Perhaps the Furries will claim her?

OK. So she's just hiding, probably to see if anyone noticed.Omphalos wrote:I just sent her a nasty gram the other day at HA. She did not answer, but she picked it up right away.
Sorry to have played into her latest attention-getting ploy.

Is, isn't it? I was rather looking forward to the delicious dilemma of having to decide whether to feel bad or not when we found out she really had died and become feast for frisky felines.
...
Nah, who am I kidding! It would have been a frickin' day-or-two party!
(You know, when they discover a body partially eaten by animals like that, they quarantine them and collect the poop and bury it with the rest of the body!)
Hey, I think I'll pop over and join her Dr Who forum and tell them she's really OK, just playing Internet-Hide-and-Seek!

I MAKE IT UP!
I don't have my own children whose heads I can fill up with my bullshit, and there's only so much I can get away with foisting on my students and maintain any credibility, so I have to get rid of it somewhere!

This chick must be a real piece of work.
I've never run into her, I guess. I don't truck with Byron.com, I must have just missed her here, and I've never really joined any other Dune-centric sites.
But she seems to bring out honest-to-God venom in many of y'all. This isn't just slapping Simon upside his head and sending him on his way; this is real, honest hatred.
It's sort of scary and fascinating at the same time.

(And, yeah, she's a real piece of work.)
Looks like she's posting again over on her Doctor Who site. No comment on why she was away, didn't post for over a month, just suddenly starts commiserating with another member whose computer got a virus.
(I was hoping just mentioning going over there would freak her out and cause her to overreact and close down the board again ... like she did back earlier in the year when we were playing Net sleuths over on T(A)U. Guess she's either not lurking here anymore or toughened up her nipples a bit. )

Response required from Omphalos
email me your response, Omph, and I'll see that it gets posted.Over There » For Lovers of Classic Dune Only » Favorite aspect of Dune?Murbella MC wrote:This is How I feel to make a point, The political system, lightly based on royalty, in which the Imperium Rules ( or the spice actually )Omphalos wrote:The thing that absolutely had me rivited to the story from the start was the political backdrop. I could not imagine a stellar empire that was basically a feudal government at that time in my SF development. Up until that time most of the stories that I had read about empires or royalty based systems were about god-kings who made every decision and had perfect spy systems so they always had the right information to make the right decision. Dune turned all the fantasy conventions on their ear for me. Herbert was talking about some far out stuff in the books, but the human interactions were all related in reality, in that leaders did the best they could with what they had at hand. I was especially blown away by the various success strategies that the various schools and groups had evolved over time, and their effect on the masses. That is still pretty much what I love most about Dune.
They had Landsraad as well as the great council.
Somewhat like during the time f Machine rule there was the league of nobles; knowing that the Great Houses combined, could wage a healthy war/ revenge. ( even though.. the House Corrino held a large vote on the council.)
After the Scattering, you know that of course some Great houses were still around and thus regained status.
If in deed you have read the prequels , In House Atreides you recall
how the Emperor Elrood ( "roody") was like 140 something years old and shaddam couldn't wait to take the throne. Even killing his brother Fanfir killed to speed up his sucession. Hasimr Fenring is one of my favorite characters in that time, having the nerve to murder the emperor.
Have a nice day
